There's simply no french movies in my favourite films ever... But: Le Mépris / JL Godard De battre mon coeur s'est arrêté / Jacques Audiard La Grande illusion / Renoir Le Trou / Jacques Becker (better than Prison Break) various films by Bertrand Blier Le Corbeau / HG Clouzot ...

Le Pornographe, what a great movie! Léaud plays a director that used to make erotic motion pictures in the 70s and has to make porn to survive...

La Haine is quite good, prophet ok but overrated.
Other than that I haven\t seen a single French film i've liked. Their sense of humour is utterly bizarre, and not in a good way.
Almost universally hindered by a pathological urge to be 'quirky' and/or 'intelligent', films which otherwise could've been passable fall victim to unnecessary contrivances which grate on the viewer.
The acting is usually inferior to English and Hollywood films as well.
French cheeses are ok though.

I can testify that not all French movies are supposed to be funny. I can also certify that French cheeses are better than OK.

I don't think they were trying to be 'quircky' or 'quircky' with this one.

I'd be curious to know what french comedies you've seen, if you remember titles.

amelie is a very good film, and chocolat is as film of an english book directed by a swede, mostly in english.
I think its getting increasingly possible to classify byrams post into 3 or 4 different types, this one follows the "foreign thing you are talking about is actually rubbish. english things are better. you are all fools but unrelated thing from that foreign country is ok, I'm not a xenophobe you see" pattern.
in future why not just type BYRAM POST TYPE C and we'll all know what it is you meant to say, saves us all time.
also: BYRAM POST TYPE A: ISLAM BYRAM POST TYPE B: ANTI WHITE RACISM BYRAM POST TYPE D: LIVERPOOL ARE SHIT
