Aren't the dips in level supposed to be in the song? It sounds like the volume dips to tie in with the chord structure

Yeah that's what I thought too.
It's quieter when the textures die down and it's just guitar/drums/cello and the volume picks up as the vocals/backing vocals re-enter and it sounds BIG.
Sounds top ffs.

Lovely lovely song you've made there Sebs. There are some volume problems at the start, the rest is part of the song me thinks.
What about a soapbox compilation for the blog? I think my ex-band could add a filler without ruining it...

good and very appreciated advise from you folks.
regarding the volume problems at the start,is it the vocals, the mini-intro or the whole verse?not sure i can change anything now though, since cubase keeps crashing on me.

regarding the volume levels i think it needs a bit of master compression and limiter. maybe kill everything sub-55hz too?

the master has been heavily limited already ,but maybe i could do it even harsher.i'll try the filter you mentioned babu,it does sound very bassy on stereo speakers.

tbh i didn't really notice anything that wrong with the mix, just the slight volume changes and the occasional muddiness, but that goes well with the indie aesthetics

Wow, really like this, sebasco. Great tune, nice n summery etc. Also, sounds really fucking professional in terms of recording. Where did you do it? At home? In a studio? Either way, it's impressive. Good work, man.

Fantastic tune Seb, lovely melody which stuck in my head straight away, and the arrangement is top notch. I'd maybe turn the vocals up a little bit, but that's just a suggestion
