always want to skip these parts. i'm watching comedy to laugh not to have some force-fed morality lesson on something trivial. "GEE DAD I REALLY LOVE YOU", fuck this shit. the reason why seinfeld is the best show ever and will always be, they never went this way I would say one of the very few times they were moving towards that direction they did it so quickly and integrated that it was never awkward at all. The one moment that comes to mind is when Kramer comes back from California and he says hi and then some seconds later returns and gives back the apartment keys to Jerry.

the office (uk): tim realises how much he likes dawn and tells her. the scene where he takes off the mic. love the bit at the end where he says "erm, she said no by the way". was going through something rather similar at the time i first watched this but it still works today. honourable mention for the xmas special as well where they kiss also this i always found just really funny and fitting with the overall humour of the show altogether, never really considered it as a "serious moment" backtrack much?

At the end of Shaun of the Dead when Shaun and Ed are in the basement.. Really touching moment imo I always thought that Donnie's death was handled rather well in The Big Lebowski. Both great shouts.

I always thought that Donnie's death was handled rather well in The Big Lebowski. great shout. yeah and I also agree with babu and backstreets though the reason simpson is good is because it wasn't just a funny show. the episode where flanders steal bart and lisa tand the other to get them baptised is really nice contradictory? kinda

nice picks shenandoah. actually reminds me of the scene from the episode Jurassic Bark which i cannot believe i forgot in my original list; the bit where fry's dog waits for him outside the shop for years and years. it's got to the point where i can't watch that episode anymore, it's too heartbreaking. When I read the thread title this is the first thing I thought of. It kills me every time.

backtrack much? what? i've genuinely not thought of this as one of those "serious" moments but just one gag more. to each their blahblah i guess jus' messin', is all. although, for me, i like a well-placed serious moment in a comedy because laughing along with something is one of the best ways to relate to it. if an emotional moment can hit you when you have an attachment and liking for the characters and have your guard down, it can be really powerful imo. it's like when you have a mate who is always happy-go-lucky and carefree and then one day you see him upset/downbeat/crying, it carries so much more weight than the stupid whingey soft cunt who moans because the music in the pub isn't to his tastes. almost all great comedy is driven by tragedy anyway.

good points baz. but for me it depends on the show tbh. Like you said, scrubs did it too often. But it was never just a comedy show. The first three seasons are a good life drama taken on the funny side. The rest is shit, bar the last episode in the 8th season. (why did they continue?)
curb your enthusiasm, now there is a show that you dont want any sloppy doppy dribble moments.
spin city, the last one with J Fox, was amazing. her, the black whaler singer sang out all of our emotions carried by both Michael's character and his real life.
also, life of brian, when brian gets crucified really gets to me.

Yeah, I'm sure it was mentioned but the Dog episode from Futurama is difficult to take.
And I always shed a tear at the ending of the first Simspsons episode with Homer's mom. The credits shot with Homer looking at the stars.
