Here's a little idea, yes, an idea from the very man who brought you the HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL 'MEMBER OF THE MONTH' abortion.
Since there a few people here with a love and knowledge of football, I figured this might work. People have to post their favourite vids and/or gifs of their favourite moments in football based on the subject matter of the thread (i.e. in this cases, best saves) and when the thread plateaus, I'll set up a poll and the winner is the BEST OFFICIAL SOAPBOX FOOTBALL MOMENT IN THAT CATEGORY. Sitrring stuff, I'm sure you'll agree.
Some rules:
- Any choices put forward must be accompanied with the details (e.g. name of player, name of team they play for, name of team they performed said moment against) as well as a video and/or an animated gif
- Nominations can be for a player from your club, but please don't get too silly with it
- People can put as many nominations to the thread as possible . The first 35 (if we get that many ) will be chosen for the poll. Just try not to be a nob and put up 100 nominations of a player from the club you support.
- Nominations can be at any level or from any country, international or club level, from any time. I believe we all have enough nous to weigh up these factors when choosing what is your favourite
- After the poll has been put up, people will have about 2 or 3 days to vote, after which it will be locked
- A brief description of why said footy moment is so sexual would be nice, but isn't necesarry
OK so that's the bumpf out of the way, onto the nominations. This thread is about the BEST SAVES you have ever seen. Here are 3 of my faves to get the ball rolling:
Gregory Coupet, for Lyon vs Barcelona
A fucking genius double save, first from a teammates terrible backpass and then from the followup by the opposition player.
David Seaman for Arsenal vs Sheffield United
In his twilight years, he pulls out the best save I have ever seen him do. Incredible reflexes and to claw it away as well. Fuck me.
Peter Schmeichel for Man U vs Rapid Vienna
David May ( )compares it to Gordon Banks' famous save against Brazil. I reckon it might even be better.
Your turns!
