Something about Weezer releasing a rarities comp called Death to False Metal is absolutely hilarious. Something about Weezer releasing a rarities comp called Death to False Metal with that cover that you see above is just absurd enough to be true. And since Weezer has the absurdity game on lock these days, you should absolutely believe it. As NME reports, Death to False Metal is coming next month; it'll arrive November 1 in the UK and November 2 in the U.S.
The 10 tracks collected on Death to False Metal are all unreleased, and they're culled from the past two decades of the band's existence. NME quotes frontman Rivers Cuomo, who says that the album features "great songs, great recordings, but for some reason they didn't make the final cut for a record". Sadly, the album does not feature "American Girls", the fan-beloved one-off that Cuomo and a few others recorded under the name Homie for the Meet the Deedles soundtrack, a track that really belongs on a Weezer rarities album.
We've got the Death to False Metal tracklist below, via NME. Let's all pause and take a minute to imagine how a Weezer song called "Blowin' My Stack" might sound. Also, you would be absolutely correct in assuming that "Unbreak My Heart" is a cover of the immortal Toni Braxton slow jam.
And in further Weezer news, James Burns, the guy attempting to raise $10 million to convince the band to break up (and receiving death threats for his trouble), wrote in this weekend to tell us that he'd raised the money he was hoping for-- almost entirely because one guy named Dennis Holm pledged $9,998,000. Holm may not have been serious, though. However, today, Burns writes that he's shutting the campaign down. He says, "Well, I didn't raise $10 million, and Weezer are still a band, but I accomplished everything I ever hoped to... I did it for the lulz."
