. . . Bowie's brood, age 39. Only one film out yet: . . . Moon. With a $5,000,000 budget he managed to create one of the very best science fiction flicks of the decade or beyond and breathe new life into the genre. The cast, if you wanna call it that, is excellent. Spacey as Gerty works well and Sam Rockwell delivers a performance that is pure brilliance - in my opinion worthy of an academy award nomination. Which, of course, he didn't get. The frame Jones sets for Rockwell's one-man-show suits the tense character-plot. In a time full of overblown, hyperbolic, officiously CGI-brimmed no-brainers it is refreshing to see a slow paced, thought-provoking science fiction film shot in beautiful old-school pictures. He used fucking models, and rightly so. A great score, another plus for this film. Clint Mansell did a great job on the music. "Welcome to Lunar Industries" > "Life on Mars?". An impressive debut. Here's hope that in the future (hurhur) there's gonna be a bit more of this kind of character-driven science fiction out in theatres - just like this or Sunshine, which was quite strong aswell.

Duncan's next projects are Source Code and Mute. Mute is another sci-fi film in the mood of Blade Runner. "…not a sequel, because I don't think it's right to make a sequel about Blade Runner, but no one's really tried to make a film which was set in the same kind of world or had that same kind of field. So that's what I'm doing, a big-city mystery story that takes place in a future Berlin." "A slightly bigger budget, and a very different feel, as its a city based thriller that takes place in a future Berlin. It's a loving homage and companion piece to Blade Runner, even if the story has nothing in common." Sounds great! Be interesting to see how his ideas and style transport from a small Moon base to a Future Berlin. Source Code is out next year, Jake Gyllenhaal leading. If i remember correctly, it's gonna be something like Groundhog Day set in an exploding train.
