My vinyl collection is nowhere near as extensive as yours, I have two 2x2 ikea kallax shelves and they are far from being full, I don't even have 300 LPs. When they are full I'll just add another one, I still have room.
CDs are a different matter, I am approaching 2.000 and they take up more room than you would expect. The only storage solution that is commercially available are those ikea media towers, I do have a number of them but never liked the way they look. I have to instal shelves that go up the wall so to take advantage of its height. Then I'll have a ladder so I can get to the CDs on the highest shelves. And if I slip and fall and die....well IT'S THE SOAPBOX, WHATCHAGONNADOABOUTIT

Genuine question: why bother keeping CDs unless it’s some incredibly rare EP on a tiny label that’ll never end up on a streaming site? I’ve still got a few, like a couple of dozen tops.

Yeah Chrissie I know but it's my collection, it's what I've been doing since I was 15 I like the idea of having an "archive" that tells a bit about my story too, that's what collections have always been about. And if streaming isn't going to disappear anytime soon, then the same is true when forking out 20, 30, 40 quid to have digitally sourced vinyl that most of the times sounds just like the version you can stream, correct? I love and collect vinyl (waiting for a couple of packages from Brazil atm) but I still think CD is a valid medium. Especially nowadays that you can have so much stuff for 3 quid a piece (can you even buy a cup of coffee for that price?!). And I do love to get stuff that isn't on streaming services and I couldn't hear otherwise...

I have a load of CDs as well that are currently sitting in an old dusty bin. I haven't looked at them in ages but yet I can't get rid of them either.
/BACK TO STREAMING THANKS

Haven't heard Force of Nature in years! - I had to go back and make sure Gem never wrote it. I am trying to blacklist all of his songs.

Force of Nature is the greatest fucking break-up song ever, it's like all the songs from Blood on the Tracks rolled into one with none of the low-testosterone whining, it's just a big fuck you you aren't getting any of my money you silly tart
only The French Inhaler by Warren Zevon comes close as far as break-up songs go but Force of Nature is better

This is the kind of nuclear hot take the forum has been severely lacking in.
More please.

I'm currently waiting for a package of LPs from Brazil, shipped with FedEx I really want to show this to you guys The FedEx website says it should arrive to my home in Rome within a couple of hours But it also says the package is still in Memphis Tennessee For some reason I find this incredibly funny

Will you have to pay much duty/tax on those vinyl? Or was the shipper responsible to pay?

TBH this is the first time they used a private courier such as FedEx to have a package shipped from Brazil. I've always used regular international shipping and never had to pay a cent in duty/taxes. And I have received many many packages over the years (books, CDs and LPs). I don't know the rules honestly, but I think I'll have to pay a % with FedEx. The guy said FedEx is awesome and I'll get the package in less than 14 days etc...(it takes 30 days usually) Package was scheduled to arrive 2 hourse ago. It's still in Memphis Tennessee. I'm so not in Memphis Tennessee.

Have been listening to James Mason's sublime solo effort Rhythm of Life today. Fusion at its finest. Not just for the AMAZING Sweet Power.
James Mason was part of Roy Ayers' gang, and this is his only official solo release.
Anyway- I realised i've never owned it so popped onto discogs and to get an original press VG copy is gonna set me back 500 sheets. If you want to enter into NM territory, you'll get no change from a grand plus 😮
Reissue it is.

Went on a bit of a vinyl spree today in my city. Last week went to Amsterdam to see Concerto (supposedly one of the biggest record shops in Europe) but was so overwhelmed with the stuff that I didn't manage to buy anything. But today I got:
Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica (finally found a copy for a decent price) Hawkwind - Space Ritual (see above) Be-Bop Deluxe - Axe Victim Keith Jarrett - Koln Concert (bit beat up but cheap as chips) Blue Cheer - Summertime Blues 45RPM Single Aphrodite's Child - Best of (it was just one euro!) Jens Akkerman - Profile (just 3 euro, Dutch folk-rock...I have to begin somewhere with Dutch music)

a mate of mine has had his new record in a queue to be pressed for 6 months and it's constantly being bounced further away for re-issue tat on major labels so I'm sure he'll be delighted about this. part of the reason for that primal scream price is that labels (therefore the punter) are paying a bit extra to bump up queue if it doesnt stop soon vinyl will become a reissue only format.

I was puzzled to find out that Dutch people actually prefer re-issues over originals. The shops here have a great amount of vintage records at surprisingly low prices, but people still browse the NEW section more than the 2nd hand.
Here you can still find good stuff for 1, 2 or 3 euros. In Italy I think the standard for low tier used LPs has become 10 euros. Less than that only gets you the very bottom of the barrell (like the stuff our grandparents used to listen to in the 50s).

Neil’s albums on vinyl in general are insane. On the order of double or triple the regular price, for some reason.
And yeah, I bought all of them used for a fraction of the cost. (Except his first album, which I cannot find here to save my life.)

I've just dug my copy of that out and it's still got it's £10 price tag on which might have been a bit expensive 15 years ago?
