Who needs new records when you can buy re-issues of records with 5 bonus slabs of vinyl of tracks you'll only ever play once & then forget about.
The delay in new records coming out is all because Nick Cave insists on having PRODUCT to release every 3 weeks.

I gave up on vinyl. My player broke and I am too lazy to get a new needle.

I don't know why some of the independents don't pool resources to open a pressing plant?
I'm sure it's not as easy as that, but the majors are gonna kill the vinyl market unless someone does something. Delays are getting worse and worse.

when they've pooled things in the past it's ended up as a disaster (rough trade distro collapse in 80s, PIAS fire recently) but it's a good question

a mate of mine has had his new record in a queue to be pressed for 6 months and it's constantly being bounced further away for re-issue tat on major labels so I'm sure he'll be delighted about this. part of the reason for that primal scream price is that labels (therefore the punter) are paying a bit extra to bump up queue if it doesnt stop soon vinyl will become a reissue only format. I mean let’s face it, vinyl is only a thing in 2021 because of reissues. The number of people buying vinyl from new artists is minuscule. DJs can make an argument for the continued use of 12” records for live mixing, but the cost must be too prohibitive for those starting out. Vinyl records are the heritage railways of the music industry. Steam engines are redundant but you can’t get rid of the fuckers. They mean too much to a niche group with endless enthusiasm.

He also announced a reissue of 'days of speed' at the same time, which is one of my favourite albums. Did the same thing, clicked on the link, saw the price and almost threw my phone across the room. 42 pounds? get fucked, old man.

The ones that need the money least etc.
File next to Rolling Stones ticket prices.
Not Prince though. Bless his little purple socks. 32 quid a pop. I'd have paid that just to see 10 mins of Maceo play his sax.

I've recently gone to a couple of vinyl sales just buying random stuff I might have never listened before or otherwise: some jazz, soul, rock classics... But on those places (at a reasonable price) there's only from late 60s to early 80s releases, so now I'm getting burned up a bit with the 70s. EDIT: Pipes of Peace for 4€ was a nice buy tbh, it's not that bad

How was 2021 in terms of buying records for you? I got a lot of discounts on Discogs from sellers who think this person they are dealing with - Simone - is an attractive Italian girl who's into Captain Beefheart and early Kraftwerk. Of course I fostered the myth by having a girl in my profile picture and with a ludricrous usage of emoticons. Hey can I have 30% off?? Guys, it works, I don't know what to say. Loads of wankers in this world.
