Froch was right in saying it wasn't his fault the fight was stopped but the stoppage was an absolute joke. Fair play to Groves he did what he said he would and then some.

Ref fucked up big time and Groves was winning by 4 or 5. But what's not to say Froch wouldn't have finished him 10 secs later as he clearly hurt him with 2 or 3 b4 ref stopped it? Sets it all up nicely for a rematch anyways

Stoppage was defo premature but I don't think it altered the course of what was going to happen. Of course I'd have liked to have seen it play out but I think Groves was fucked at that point. Similar to recent UFC cards where the underdog has surpassed expectations but still lost, I think a similar hysteria is taking hold here.
I'm more fucked off that just as the momentum changed, the ref stopped the fight and we were robbed of one of the best legitimate comebacks of all time. Tbf Groves might have lost the fight but he's come away as the peoples champ. It's the biggest double turn since Austin and Bret at Wrestlemania 13 and he'll probably gain more in the long run. Hope he Stunners Barry Hearn on ringside!

Good call on the Austin/Hart double turn. I turned to my mate after the fight and said this is like a WWE storyline. The closest in sport that you'll get to a double turn like Austin/Brett. Groves goes in their being booed by 20'000 people and walks out as the heroic loser being cheered by 20'000 people. Amazing Amazing fight. People keep saying that if the ref hadn't stopped it then Froch would have put him down anyway? why? did you see Groves with the ref after he was stopped, he was all there looking like he could go another few rounds.
Rematch will be massive. Could probably fill a stadium in the spring.

Jim Watt is a total mong and it wasn't as nearly as one sided as he was making out - and as some on here think! Swayed by watt? Casual fans usually are, which is what makes him so dangerous.
Froch would land 4 or 5 blows, switching from body to head and causing gropves problems, the cockney ginger would then throw a punch, which didnt even have to land, and Watt would be salivating over the fact he got the 'last word' in.
Also the stoppage was probably too early but make no mistake, Groves would not have won that fight after that mauling. Correct stoppage in a way, it just denied the fans the chance to see the knockout that was on its way.

Great to see Froch win. Not because he deserved to - I think anyone with two eyes could see that he got his arse handed back to him by Groves - but because he's now replaced my man Ricky Burns as the possessor of the most tainted belt in British boxing. Well done Carl!

One second before the stoppage  Groves was just about to get the shit kicked out of him. It's annoying that he didn't because the slightly early stoppage means comments like the above post have some superficial validity. |
