'Ghostbusters II' ... my Dad took me to the Strand Cinema to see it, i was mesmerised by the massive screen. I also went to see 'K-9' with my mate Glenn around the same time. BIG TIMES.
I also remember going to see 'Batman Returns' with my Uncle again at the Strand, i must have been about 8 and the Penguin scared the shit out of me, especially the scene where he bites some random persons nose off. Had nightmares for a week, for fuck sake.

THE MASK
i was 8 i think and felt like a bit of a late starter compared to a lot of my mates who had been to see loads of stuff before then. was for a fellow mates 8th birthday and he was allowed 3 friends to go along with him and his dad to the cinema.

I was always more for renting films out than going to the cinema. Used to go to the video library on the Ballygowan Road, get a few films out and then take them down to my Uncle John's and he'd double record them for me.
Used to get loads of Ghostbuster's cartoons out, must have had about 4 or 5 dozen episodes spread over three or four videos. I even remember cutting out pictures of Ghostbuster's toys from the Argos catalogue and making my own covers for the vidoes.

yeah i was into renting videos more than cinema as a kid too. it was through going to the video rental shop every saturday as a kid that i got into wrestling. i couldnt think what to get one time and my dad said to me why not try some wrestling. so i hired out wrestlemania 6 and havent looked back since. the hulk hogan v ultimate warrior match blew me away. the video shop then got closed down a couple of years later as the bloke running it was doing under the counter pornos

I used to tape all the boxing off ITV & cut out the newspaper pictures the following day to make artwork for the tapes. Suburban Commando was fucking shit, even as a kid I knew it was shit. Was exciting as hell though having Hogan in his first proper staring film role. Shame it was shit. Never had the technology to do tape2tape but had 100's of VHS tapes from TV. Theres films where when I watch a DVD I feel almost disappointed when the Daz advert doesn't pop up after the Ewoks meet R2D2

glad i wasnt the only one who made front covers for things taped off tv. used to get those big black vhs tape cases that made them look like books. get a pritstick and some cut outs from the newspaper or a magazine and make a front cover for all the wrestling and stuff.

I know I always say it but we had almost identical childhoods. My dad brought a tape home of that from work & that was it for me, my childhood had a purpose. Before that I used to watch NWA with the freebirds, Sting & Muta, great times. I reckon before I was 18 I probably only went cinema maybe 10-15 times, could probably remember the lot that I saw.

It's too fucking expensive. If I do go usually it's in TCOTU then it's a saturday so it's 10 quid, 10 quid to watch a film I could buy for 3 pound on DVD a year later. I deliberately try to pick a long film when I go as well to get my moneys worth So yeah my best memories of films from a young age were video rental shops. VHS artwork was the fucking best, they really could make the biggest pile of shit look the most amazing film ever. Who the fuck could see that on the shelf & not wanna hire it out?

I must have rented it out about 10 times.

My best cinema experience was Flacko throwing a minstrel across the cinema and smashing some little kid in the back of the head who cried for 20 minutes during Dante's peak.
& sneaking a Mcdonald's in everytime & stinking the whole place out.
