cant remember if there are many fans on here or not but in the middle of a mini obsession with darren haymans stuff again so thought id make a thread obviously hefner were fucking awesome and the fidelity wars in particular being one of the greatest albums of the 90s, however his solo stuff seems to go pretty overlooked. hes currently doing a project where he will write and release for free a song for each day of january. the first one was turtleed today (obviously) and it is pretty nice. januarysongs.tumblr.com/so yeah post your appreciation for darren hayman and hefner below and maybe we can all talk about his january songs as they get released each day. 2nd of his january songs was called "bad technology" and is quite minimalist with a nice electronic beat going on throughout. i think its slightly better than yesterdays song and i really like it.
THIS PROJECT DESPITE BEING VERY UNORIGINAL, IS FUCKING AMAZING.

track 3 posted today is called "staying in". it is a sombre affair and probably my least favourite of the 3 so far.

track 4 is LOVELY. it features gordon from ballboy on vocals and sounds exactly what youd imagine a darren hayman song sung by that bloke from ballboy to sound like really. probably my favourite so far.

Flaming Lips are doing something similar this year though they are going to release a track each month rather than every day.

david shepphard wrote the music for this one whilst darren wrote the lyrics. its pretty maudlin and almost cohen esque in tone. VERYNICE

DAY 6 - my favourite so far. a live recording and a straight up pop song that is super catchy and makes you want to sing along.
DAY 7 - another one with more electronic stuff going on. some nice lyrics going on here but im not so keen on the tune - bit dull.

DAY 8 - another sad one. i wasnt so sure of this at first but its a bit of a grower.
DAY 9 - bit more upbeat, good pop song this one.
think i might rank them all in order at the very end

not really sure what this forum is but was trying to find the 5 middle songs that I missed between day 3 and day 9 (if anyone could pm them to me that would be lovely)
anyways would just like to say that todays song is beautiful, Elizabeth Morris is one of my favorites I have been listening to her for a long time and it is wonderful to see her and Darren working together here, though I guess it was bound to happen since their bands share members.

DAY 10 - very beautiful, sung by allo darlin bird. NICE
DAY 11 - found this one a little by unremarkable. ok but nothing of note.
DAY 12 - jaunty little number this one, can see it being a grower.
DAY 13 - brass makes an appearance.i really like the electronic noises in this one too. GOOD

DAY 15 - i dont like the melody of this one too much tbh. pretty average
DAY 16 - "the other one" from hefner sings on this. the songs ok but i miss darrens vox.
