For some reason when track 5 starts up it sounds like a chipmunk singing or something? Does anybody else notice? The vocals are really weird and i know a few songs after to me are kind of like it as well.
I'm really digging it though just find it odd.

I really like the first half, which sounds more like his early singles. Then he enters cruising speed and well, I don't know, it happens so fast that I don't realize.

Yup exactly it seems really odd the first 4 songs are fucking great and some in the back are really good as well. It's the middle part that fucks me up.

His songs are good, but listening to him makes me ask a familiar question - what's with the on-going obsession with 'lo-fi' recording techniques?
Dozens and dozens of good bands are spending a lot of money in order to sound cheap. You reckon Buddy Holly would have wanted to sound like his records were made in a bedroom? Would he fuck.

It's all JP's fault, I reckon.

I like it with some bands but others it just sounds awful. Vivian Girls = Good, whereas PENS = the worst band of all time.

A couple of the Vivian Girls singles are passable, but as I've said before, they are one of the worst live bands I've ever seen.
This whole lo-fi obession is bizarre. It's a mistaken belief that the more scuzzy the recording, the more 'authentic ' it is. It's a lot of reto-fixated pish quite frankly.

I'm completely bored with the lo-fi scene. I love JP, great taste & always shares good music with us but the last couple of years I've tried out so many records with the same fucking outcome which is it would sound good if it was produced properly. Quite bored of hearing bands debuts that sound like I'm hearing them through a fish tank. Still, new Raveonettes LP + B-sides collection out this year, they won't sell out

Bands should get back to trying to get authentic 60's dust on their recordings. Space-dust forever.

"There’s nothing worse than hearing a band who sound like they were recorded in the 60’s. Give up, buy a shop and work there instead. We don’t want to hear you, you make me vomit blood from my nose and ears." -Barry Burns, Mogwai
I'm not suggesting all lo-fi bands sound like they were recorded in the 60s, but I agree with his sentiment.

Aren't you a massive fan of the Stairs debut, The La's & White Stripes? Seems a strange quote to be bringing up when so many of the acts you love deliberately record with old techniques to create that 60's sound.

The BJM too.

I don't wanna split hairs too much, but the White Stripes were more anti-digital, and prefered to record on analouge, which is a preference of sound rather than style. The Stairs on the other hand...

You are mocking the Stairs? Their debut is a 1000 times better than that piece of shit Mogwai have just put out. Either way I still find it strange that you would embrace such a quote seeing as you are a fan of so many acts that favour the 60's.

Sorry I thought you were laughing because you thought they were shit.
I'm pretty sure I will feel the dust flying off my mp3 player when I hear the Wynd debut!

Don't wanna spoil the party but I don't think this album is particularly and (more important) deliberately lofi tbh. The guy was selling cassettes with home recordings a year ago, and has polished a bit the sound since then.

still waiting on him to finish mixing two final tracks, 6 months after we finished recording ffs.

Have you ever thought why it's taking so long? While you are sitting around waiting for this bloke to do something that should only take a weekend Rod has left you for Blain and is re-recording your songs with Blains vocals whilst sprinkling stardust all over the tracks.
Sorry to be the one to break this to you.
Barny, I agree with this LP not being overly lo-fi. I'm just not sold on it as of yet.
