Liverpool complete £10.7m deal for Porto's Raul Meireles Liverpool have moved to sign Porto midfielder Raul Meireles in a £10.7 million deal to replace Javier Mascherano, according to reports.
The Guardian claims the deal should be finalised over the weekend, subject to a medical, which would bring the 27-year-old to Anfield with Mascherano heading to Barcelona.
The Portuguese international, who impressed during the 2010 World Cup, is said to have agreed personal teams with the Reds and is set to take over Mascherano's position with the Argentine on the verge of completing his move to the Nou Camp after a £17.2m deal was agreed.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola reports that negotiations are at an advanced stage between Meireles and Liverpool, and the player should be announced by the Reds in the coming hours.

Didn`t the "portuguese league" rape Everton last season several times? Everton reserves. The team that got beat 5-0 by Benfica: Howard Gosling Hibbert Distin Coleman Fellaini Cahill Rodwell Bilyaletdinov Jo Yakubu The team that got beat 2-0 by Benfica: Howard Hibbert Yobo Distin Baines Gosling Fellaini Rodwell Bilyaletdinov Cahill Yakubu Reserves? I think not. The team that got beat 3-0 by Sporting: Howard Neville Yobo Senderos Baines Osman Arteta Pienaar Bilyaletdinov Saha Donovan Once again, clearly not Everton reserves.

The team that got beat 5-0 by Benfica: Gosling Hibbert Distin Coleman a 19 year old midfielder at right back. a right back at centre half who'd never played there before Distin a young right back fresh from the irish league making his debut out of position at left back I'd call that the reserves, it doesn't matter who is playing in midfield if you can't put out anything like a proper defence. you went through looking for all those teams in response to that comment. yet will still use the word "bitter" the next time its pointed out that you are a team in terminal decline on the verge of bankruptcy and also have the most horrible supporters of any club in history, without a hint of irony.

You fail to mention the fact that the reason the Portuguese league was brought up was because an Evertonian was being bitter, that's why i responded.
You really are a bitter man.
Gosling has played right back a few times, Distin is a vastly experienced defender who you paid £5m for, Hibbert is a vastly experienced defender who you all loved a few years ago. In conclusion, that was not the reserve team. Two young players do not make a starting 11 a reserve team.
Last week Liverpool had Martin Kelly a young right back playing left back and Dani Pacheco a young forward playing on the wing. That isn't what you'd normally call "the reserves" it's what you'd normally call a "weakened team".

Gosling has played right back a few times, . gosling has played right back for the reserves. hibbert isnt a centre half and had never played there before. he was a midfielder in our youth teams.

so?
Carragher played right back for us last year, he'd never played there at the top level before. Still doesn't make a side full of internationals and experienced players the reserves.

Byram, you're being stupid. The Portuguese league is certainly top heavy but the teams at the top (i.e. Benfica, Porto, Sporting) are fucking fantastic and have plenty of top top players, Raul Meireles included. FFS.

www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/reds-complete-meireles-dealRaul Meireles officially signs for Liverpool for €14m (£11.4m). Absolutely delighted with this, he's a top player and it literally came out of nowhere. We've finally replaced Alonso imo, he's a similar type of player. He's definitely more consistent and stronger than Aquilani so maybe letting him go to Juventus wasn't such a bad idea after all. Time will tell i suppose.

Carragher's played right back plenty of times. Not until last season he hadn't. He used to play left back under Houllier, Benitez played him centre half and he was only ever a right back when we had noone else. But if you don't want to go along with that what about when Mascherano had to play right back? He's never played there before but we played him there a few times, does that mean we were playing a reserve team?

Wikipedia diagrees en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamie_CarragherThe only game we lost badly was Benfica away, sporting away was hugely flattering to sporting ith two late goals, and benfica at home was also closer than the scoreline suggests. A right back playing centre bak for the first time ever, an inexperienced midfielder playing right back, a right back mnaking his debut at left back, our best player out, our best striker out, our best winger out, Fellaini was still recovering from a virus, Rodwell was still a youngster. NO JAGIELKA NO HEITINGA NO YOBO NO BAINES NO SAHA NO ARTETA NO PIENAAR NO NEVILLE NO OSMAN reserves pretty much, i'd say, espeically as the first teamers we had playing had to play out of poistion.

Sorry Byram but an Everton team with Howard, Hibbert, Distin, Fellaini, Cahill, Rodwell, Bilyaletdinov, Jo and Yakubu starting is not an Everton reserve side, no matter how much twisted logic you try to use,

Howard - I'll give you Hibbert - Playing centre back = reserve. He's not even first choice right back. Definitely reserve. Distin - Heitinga, Yobo, jagielka are all better imo. Felliani - REcovering from virus but yeah, not a reserve. Rodwell - Not even first choice this season. DEfinitely a reserve last season. Cahill - I'll give you that one as well. Jo - Definitely a reserve. Yakubu - He's a reserve this season. Saha's better. We play 4-5-1. Definitely a reserve.
I also wasn't expecting you to take that comment quite so literally.
Do you now admit you were wrong about Carragher never having played right back? That was a strange claim tbh.

Carragher may have played one or two games as a sub at right back under Evans or Houllier but never played there for any length of time, the majority of the time under Houllier he was left back. So yeh he may have played there a handful of times over 10 years ago.
