Just think Andy, when the forum was getting its groove on listening to Elephant, you were probably having a wank whilst listening to Turin Brakes.

MAN. Tower Records. I'd forgotten about that place. It was fucking massive.
I mean as in it was a sizable shop, not that things regularly kicked off there.

Listened to it 2 or 3 times, it's a top album. Not quite on the same level as Safe As Milk though. Still haven't stuck on Trout Mask Replica though.

I think it's much better than Safe As Milk, that record is probably not a great representation of Captain Beefheart. It;s a bit too run of the mill L.A band type stuff of that time yet still good record. The Don really came out to play after that with his own unique style of music. Trout Mask might take some time Took about five years for me infact.

Give me another album of his to download because Trout Mask Replica will probably become the Godfather of albums for me.
By that, yes, I do mean I still haven't watched The Godfather.

Doc at the Radar Station I'd recommend. He signed to a major label and made a couple of not so good records in the mid 70's then came back with a new lineup & made one of his best LP's. Also will help ease you into Trout Mask as it contains elements of that record but also has more normal sounding structures so probably a good one to hear.

On it now, nice one. For such a mental chap it's quite strange that he didn't allow members of his Magic Band to take drugs, at all. Still, it certainly didn't affect the music. Frank Zappa was the same with regards to drugs as far as I'm aware but I think I'll give him a miss because his death wasn't timely enough for me.
