"the hunted"
Gameshow thing in Channel 4 where 8 pairs of people go on the run and try to avoid team of crack private investigators. Thought it'd be a bit lame as they rent ACTUALLY on the run but I was genuinely invested in the contestants. And the bit at the end when two friends who had fallen out and gone their separate ways reunited on the runway was genuinely heartwarming.
Everyone sort of knows how much access 'the man' has to our shit but having it laid out in such stark detail was more than a little disconcerting.

The Last Panthers.
Multi-national, multi-language thriller about diamond heists, arms sales, the Balkan wars and gangland Marseille.
Dark, bleak, beautifully paced, exquisitely shot, great lead performances. Samantha Morton doesn't get nearly as much credit as she deserves, she's magnificent in this; understated but brilliant. John Hurt is John Hurt and Goran Bogdan who plays Milan Celik is also great.
Got one episode left, which i'll watch tonight.
8/10

I was actually a bit disappointed in the end. Was hoping pre series it was going to focus on a smaller self contained story each episode and also have a main story arc on going throughout. overall felt it was more a triumph of style over substance.

Gotham- late to this but 8 eps in to the series 1 and loving it. I'm a big fan of the more recent series of Batman films, starting with Batman Begins (which I think is the best) and this has a similar feel. Some fantastic characters - they've nailed Penguin.
The Get Down
It's a period close to my heart and I was hoping for quite a gritty recounting of the period and while it doesn't hold back with some of the violence and drugs etc, it's all done in quite a camp, kitsch way. The whole thing is camp and over the top but super entertaining at the same time.
It's very very Baz Luhrmann, superbly made, looks amazing, very theatrical and slick. It feels almost a bit West Side Story- which could be a bad thing, but if you accept it for what it is, it's great.
It's lavish and has amazing music and some fantastic performances (most of the kids, particularly the main two, Jaden Smith as the super-chilled graffiti artist, Jimmy Smits, Gian Carlo Esposito).
3 episodes in and can't want for the next 3.

I've been watching some great fucking stuff recently The Get DownLove everything about it. It uses a huge budget really well, flash without being flashy, camp without being cringe, hard-nosed without being incongruously violent to the rest of its colourful, bouncy surroundings. My only tiny reservation is that it may run out of steam quite quickly, but that's not really based on anything but a silly hunch. For now, I think it is fucking brilliant high-end fun. Baz Lurhmann doing a $120m love letter to hip hops creation whilst weaving in Musical moments via samurai aesthetics REALLY should be fucking dreadful but it's the exact opposite. and Jimmy Smits is fantastic in it! 9 Rear WindowDunno how I only got round to seeing this, but it blew me away. Quite easily already one of my favourite films ever. So precise and modern and timeless, and the performances are perfect. The dialogue is a fucking gift from the heavens ffs. It'd probably trouble Pulp Fiction, Withnail & I, Network, Jurassic Park and The Godfather in my all time top 5 tbh. 10 Dazed & ConfusedOnce again, not sure how I only got round to watching this, but just glad I finally did. It's not without flaw but it feels like such an original and authentic look at the usual high school tropes. The conversations never feel cliched and the whole thing still feels fresh as fuck despite the dated characters. 8.5/10 Mrs Brown's Boys all next week for balance i guess.

Planet Earth II
The whole season was stunning, but the last episode is without question the best hour of telly i've ever seen. Sensational and groundbreaking. A very high new benchmark for that kind of TV.
