I think it was the right thing to do. I loved the last album, I wasn't one of those who felt he was killing the Cribs but at the same time I think for he & the Cribs it was the time to move on.

Yeah agree, I wasn't massive on the last album, but didn't hate it either, it was nice to see them a few times with him, but then I don't really think he brought that much to the table other than sticking on a layer or two of reverby guitars, which I suppose worked for what they wanted to do with the last album, but would grate a touch if the next album was too similar.

Really enjoyed the last album, but no more than the previous 3. Not too fussed about this. It's probably the right thing to do. Hopefully it'll shake things up a bit and make them do something different on the next album.

Their last album is easily my favourite thing they've done, so I'm gutted to hear this. Such an accomplished album.

Yeah Ignore the Ignorant is my favorite... but i take it as a great thing that it happened in the first place. What the messages given out today seem to convey is that originally they were just kind of jamming together, possibly doing a one-off single together/ep and that was that... but it all was going so well they decided to do an album out of it.

So i'm just happy that they worked together in the first place, and i got to see them twice while Marr was with them. Great times.

Can't wait 3 months till Johnny Marr has another midlife crisis and joins yet another middling indie band :-/

The Cribs have explained why guitarist Johnny Marr has left the band after nearly four years in the set-up.

Ryan, Gary and Ross Jarman posted a message on Thecribs.com, writing that they had attempted new album sessions with Marr but that the stints "weren’t really working".

Marr released one album with the band, 2009's 'Ignore The Ignorant'.

"There were definite intentions of continuing on together and making another record," the three brothers wrote. "We even went into the studio with Edwyn Collins again last spring and started recording some stuff, but it just wasn't really working."

They added: "We were all pretty burnt at that point and that is why we decided that after eight years and four records we should take some time off."

The trio went on to explain that demo sessions they subsequently recorded as a threesome put the idea in their heads that they should revert to their original line-up.

"During that time we all intended on working on other projects," they wrote. "At some point late last year we just casually got together out in Portland as a three-piece and it was so much fun. Johnny had started working on a solo record in the time off, and it just seemed like the right time to go our separate ways."

They added: "We have a bunch of new songs and are embracing the lo-fi again. It never was about fancy studios and LA and all that. We are back in our usual environment and feeling good about it. We've got everything we need."

The band are set to knuckle down on their fourth album after their summer festival appearances.

Thank fuck for that. I really cannot understand how people think the 4th album stands up to the first three. There's only 4 decent tunes on it. Hopefully they will get back to basics and knock out some proper hits again.

Completely agree and it's not like I'm not interested anymore in them, but I wouldn't have minded Ignore The Ignorant pt. 2, can't find a duff track on it.

Aye, I struggled manfully with it and though there's no real bad tunes on there as such, in the end you just have to say, apart from We Were Aborted it's basically a bit dull. Got a soft spot for City of Bugs and Victims Of Mass Production too but even those sound so reigned in compared to what they could be. They sounded like they were trying half as hard on the b-sides and bonus tracks and they ended up being twice as good as most of the album.

Looking forward to an album of Be Safes now :BONE:

plenty of people have stolen my thunder here, i like ignore the ignorant and im a huge marr fan, but its not heartbreaking news by any means.

i think itll be good for both the cribs and marr that they do different things seperately. i think it was a cool collabaration, but i can only echo what others have said that its most proabaly the right thing at the right time for both.

Totally agree.

We Were Aborted isn't half as exciting as Bovine Public let alone something off The New Fellas.

As epics go Be Safe dicks all over my other two faves City of Bugs and Stick to yr Guns.

Half the album is completely forgettable.

oh god you guys are so indie, ignoring all the best tunes on the album and highlighting the weakest points, we get it, you're very hip!

the rest of the album is "forgettable" success, U've got me mad bro. ;)

tbh I was never into them until that album, first one sounded like Strokes without blood and the other two had some tunes but were "completely fogettable" for me back then. Although now I enjoy them all I still think they're duller than Ignore the Ignorant, which makes me want to punch walls and enjoy life.

:o

i'm more buoyed that marr is leaving than i would be if he stayed. last album had some moments but lost a lot of the cribs spikiness and energy.

tbf I agreed in more original post, i thought what they did together was marvelous but am not particularly saddened he's off again, was good while it lasted and i'm happy with that.

I'm sure I'm alone with this but songs usually kick me more when they have two guitars on it, that's why some early Cribs songs feel flat to me. I wish I could think otherwise but I can't.
