i think it's a comfortably better album than primary colours, which i thought was half-great but fell off badly on some songs. this doesn't fall below at least "good", and even then it's only for a couple of tunes. real impressive stuff. Thanks Mattipoo

5 songs in whilst listening to it on HEADPHONES for the first time.
Album of the year tbh.

Love Faris's vocals on this new record. Theres a touch of Bowie about 'Oceans burning'.

The video for Still Life is the best ever(ish)Touches a bit on the Who Feels Love video, no? Or is my memory crap... How did this band get to be so goddamn brilliant? Faris is taking tremendous steps as a songwriter, also with Cats Eyes...
LOVE IT

I'm pretty sure it's because they're from Essex.

Cheers Baz. Downloaded it this morning and gave it a couple of spins during work. And to be honest i was a little disappointed by it. I need to give it a listen when i'm not doing paper work and not really listening to it properly.

Spun it once yet, in a convenient setting - driving through the dawn, on my own, in a silent car with an exquisite sound system. With Primary Colours being absurdly good, them seeming to be likable lads and the leading single Still Life being an upright 12 outta 10 and shitting from a gyroplane on most anything I've heard in years, the way seemed paved for an album that I'd admire at the very least. Again, I just listened to it once, but I have to say that it let me down, which I never thought would happen. Expectations were immense, yeah, but the notable lack of 'bite' up to track 8 disenchanted me. Still Life is immense and I liked Moving Further Away quite a lot, despite the bloody seagulls. Changing The Rain and Monica Gems I'd rate (just) a tad better than the other six songs, but those were all pretty much only a 7 to me, lacking something. All three favorite songs mentioned in this thread so far didn't really do much for me. Yet. Hope it'll change. But fuck it, at least I'm not sitting in the same wagon as mingby.
Gonna wait a day and give it the next listen tomorrow.
Still a great band though with more to come in this decade I'm sure.

Never fully got into Primary Colours (I'll try again) but really like this. Had a nice walk to work this morning soundtracked by it. Think 'Still Life' is probably my favourite but seems like it's gonna be an album that will get better with repeated listens.

I know what you mean, I was the same on first listen but it's not really an issue now that I've listened a few times. I'm sure it will kick in for you

On track 7, and so far I'd say it's not a patch on Primary Colours. It's solid, but will reserve judgement until I've had a few more listens.

i'm quite surprised at the soapy reception, definitely prefer this album to primary colours as a whole. doesn't bore me for a single second.

I'm sure everyone will be on the bandwagon after a few spins Bazza.
It's a brilliant album.
