earplugs

i've come to the conclusion that i need to invest in a good pair of earplugs. the epiphany came last night as i was dancing away to some murderous basslines in Fabric, only to realise that when i got back to mine this morning, my ears were basically fucked. felt like they had water in them, everything seems muffled and distant today. i'm not gonna stop going to loud gigs and club nights, obviously, but conversely i don't want to lose my fucking hearing - i'd rather go blind.
so does anyone know of good quality earplugs that can protect your hearing on nights out but not ruin the experience too much (and it not be too obvious that you're wearing earplugs)? i don't mind paying a bit extra for them as i'd get a lot of use out of them

You're mainly paying for the impressions, but fitted plugs definitely are the way to go if you're serious. Earplugs greatly change the perception of things, so you may want to try a disposable cheapo pair to start with just to see if you're serious about it. They have moldable ones that are relatively cheap.

I'd imagine they are the easiest things on earth to lose.
When I saw the Jonestown in goteborg about 50% of the audience had ear plugs in. Swedes are too kind, when Anton was a prick and stormed off the stage for 20 minutes nobody boo'd once.
they should of all launched their earplugs at him.

i had an earplug meltdown where i was about 19 and decided i needed them, next gig i went to with them i definitely rated it sound was okay and you couldnt hear crowd cunts but goddammit theyre easy to lose and i did lose them like a week later.
seen jonestown twice since and a couple of other bands without and im surviving, got fade away cranking in earbuds as i type but theyre not the worst investment theres nothing worse than that 2 days of being underwater after a gig where the guy on the mixing desk is fucking useless. but i do think the disposable ones any pharmacy has can do the job tbbh.

Don't blame you, from playing in bands I have tinitus in my left ear.....when everythings silent I can hear it ringing away. Real annoying, and I was the only one who'd wear ear plugs at rehearsals too!

I've only worn earplugs once at a gig (A Place To Bury Strangers) and i was glad tbh. I'd seen them once before and it took me about 3 days to recover from the aural assault.

fuck yeah, a place to bury strangers were stupidly loud. great gig though. thing is, a gig lasts about 90 mins on average whereas something like fabric, you'll be in there for 7,8,9 hours, dancing away not knowing how fucked your eardrums are getting

great non-stop music and hordes of the fittest girls of all time generally keep you going
MBV was insanely loud. never heard anything like it. i had to keep the earplugs in all gig, whenever i took them out it was genuinely like being cunted in the head by a fist of gold.

didnt think a place to bury strangers were too bad in the loud stakes when i saw them.
the only 2 gigs ive worn earplugs for were the 2 times i saw dinosaur jr. you can tell theyre gonna be loud just by how many huge amps j mascis has.
