Quite possibly the worst record he's ever made if you ask me.

From what I've heard it is average, but not actually bad.

This is fucking brilliant I really don't get the hating. It sounds really fresh. Alot of different and unusual influences for Weller going on yet still grounded well within the structure of his great songwriting. Best album I've heard all year so far. Bartman, you gotta be tripping if you think this is worse than the last couple of Style Council LP's. For me his last three solo records have been him at his very best. He's not even attempting to write hits or enormous hooks anymore, it just feels very organic & spontaneous with him. Can't wait to hear these tunes played at Latitude. Quite fancied seeing him at the Roundhouse next week but with fee's and what not it's near 50 quid so he can fuck off. His band are fucking great right now though, when I saw him before Christmas they looked like they were having so much fun together. Really reminded me of watching Neil Young

I understand what you mean by that actually. Beautiful Future is record I really should revisit soon. I think it caught me by surprise with how poppy it was in places & after the piece of shit they'd released before it I wasn't in a very forgiving mood around the time it was released.
Wonder if we'll get a new scream LP this year. Bobby reckons so but I've a feeling we won't. Can never write that band of that's for sure. Even if it's shit after those Screamadelica gigs I'll forgive them forever.

Waiting for it to be delivered from Amazon as I'm sure that no one here sells the hard cover CD / DVD thingo.

For me the best tracks are:
By the Waters The Dangerous Age Be Happy Children Around The Lake When Your Garden's Overgrown
Also, Devotion however this is a bonus track on the 'Deluxe Edition'.

Really struggling with this one. Only 2-3 tracks really stand out for me. Which is a shame, really, because I absolutely loved the last two. Oh well...I'll go see him in toronto in may and be thrilled by whatever he does. As always.

awesome how in mojo he has a massive sour up at simon dine. havent heard the album, but read that in the shop last week waiting to get my haircut and enjoyed it, classic weller banter. does he still hate paolo hewitt for unknown reasons?

Going to see the man in toronto on monday...not sure if he's going to do the "whole new album" thing again, but I see he played 'in the city' in new york last night. Would like that a whole lot.

Though my appreciation has grown, it's nowhere near as great as Modernism: A New Decade
Dylan, Young, James Morrison, no-one can touch Weller. When the saxophone joins in at the end (4.04) that is probably the best bit of music ever recorded.
