It comes in waves, didn't the same happen with Dan Brown? Oh, and Away We Go is absolute GASH! Waste of my time. Surprisingly bad considering the cast and director combination. I give it about a 4/10.

Don't know how they are in English but can't imagine they are better than they are in the original language which means they are pretty much a pile of garbage. The characterisation is like a B version of Stephen King's in a way. Not horror wise, but just how he builds the characters through the story arch. So it all just came off as a bad rip off try to me. That so many people manage to hype it up is beyond me. I would think there are enough people out there to understand the blandness. They are the book equivalent of Coldplay's X&Y album.

Scum (1979) Thoroughly enjoyed this, especially the bits when Carlin (Ray) smacks Phil Daniels across the napper with some pool balls in a sock then gives the 'daddy' a lesson in being a hard cunt and fucking up the darky from another wing. 7.5/10

Been reading anything good whilst you've been travelling? /should've been in the Official What Are You Reading Now? thread loads of good stuff tbh, really been enjoying my reading since i´ve been away. some of the stuff includes: paulo coelho - the alchemist (not very good tbh) mark twain - the adventures of huckleberry finn (fucking incredible) ernest hemingway - the sun also rises (see twain) f.scott fitzgerald - the great gatsby (see hemingway) albert camus - the plague (see fitzgerald) gabriel garcia marquez - 100 years of solitude (in the middle now, loving it) * others. was gonna review them all when i get back and have some time to think.

Fascination (1978)lesbian french vampires 8/10 from imdb: This erotic horror film, set in 1916, tells the story of a thief who seeks refuge in a castle owned by two women, Eva (Brigitte Lahaie) and Elizabeth (Franca Mai). The women are seductive and teasing, but turn out to be part of a vampiric cult of blood-drinking aristocrats looks pretty fuckings weet

gabriel garcia marquez - 100 years of solitude (in the middle now, loving it) I swear, every cunt that comes to this country reads that book (not that you're a cunt, but you know what I mean). I gave it a try a few years back and was bored to tears, it's one of those books that you have to pick up at the right exact moment of your life, otherwise you end up hating it. Like me. I'm not a big fan of Colombia's biggest literary export, how unpatriotic of me . Um, last film I saw, last night, Date Night, wtf? Lame-a-thon. 4/10

Ok well inspired by its many votes on the Film Tournament thread, I decided to download and watch The Lives of Others, and I just want to say I cried at the end. Amazingly acted, amazingly scored, oh man, I love it when I come across a film of this caliber. 8.2/10

in bed with madonna - 8/10 tour documentary from the 90/91 blonde ambition tour. going thru me vhs tapes and thought i'd give it a look. some really awkward viewing. especially the bit where the old friend from michigan wants her to be the godmother of her kid. kevin costner calling her show "neat" is another one. comes across as a bitch in some scenes and a genuine warm hearted individual in others. some good concert footage to enjoy along the way as well.

expendables 9/10 great action, great one liners, huge film. + mickey rourke was phenomenal, A* star acting from rourke in a film that didnt even need c+ acting. would this be required viewing then for someone who hypothetically has a crush on jason statham from the bank job and transporter movies? strictly hypothetical you see.

They are the book equivalent of Coldplay's X&Y album. they are so prominently displayed in every bookstore here, you can't pass them without noticing. the cover article of 'entertainment weekly' that i read every week a couple months ago was about steig larsson and how great the books are worldwide blah blah blah www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20394900,00.html that after reading the article i made a point of picking them up and reading a couple pages in the store, but it just didn't grab me enough to be like 'i have to buy this right now!'. i think i'll maybe just watch the films, the swedish version and the american one they're filming. i think daniel craig's been cast and the girl hasn't been yet. f.scott fitzgerald - the great gatsby one of my favorite books. although the movie is utter horse shit.

I do look forward to the American version solely because of Fincher. The story is there behind all the mud so if he can bring it forward it should be rather exciting.
Read the girl lead role is taken now as well. The girl from the Facebook movie. Whoever she is.

Some great books there baz, Twain was a genius of the highest order tbh and ole Gatsby is hard to beat. I too didn't think the Alchemist was that great at all, I'd had people raving about it to me and I was expecting big things. It was like a kids book, maybe I was just too old when I read it. If you haven't read the The Picture of Dorian Gray, DO IT.

So Lynds, you're a girl.. Saw this girl (not ex-girlfriend but ex.. you know what) the other day that I haven't talked with for 8 years or something and she said I looked the same as then (I am 29 now) and that I was like from the book "Dorian Gray". Is that a compliment or a nice way of telling me I look like a fuckin' 15 year old?

Is that a compliment or a nice way of telling me I look like a fuckin' 15 year old? Well. Both of course. Also, rate films in this thread. No more "Twain was a genius" bullshit. You reckon Twain was a genius? Really? Wow.
