I'm really looking forward to this. Unfortunately we will have to continue waiting till October 1. I forget who the The Sopranos fans are around here. Hopefully the Gandolfini casting works out. David Chase is again in charge so my faith is strong.

Pig - [2021] It is fun! I guess! You just have to roll with the Cage in this one. Does it pay off? Kinda maybe not really. Did para like it? No. Did I like it? Yes, because I love Cage and he over/under performed here. Over because it was his best bit of actual acting I've seen from some time, which I fucking love, and it is just such a strange story. Perhaps frodis knows some of these Oregonian folks that he deals with. Under because it just misses the mark of wanting to tell your friend to watch it. I liked it, para did not. If you read anything comparing this to a John Wick film, shrug it off. No comparisons should be made. What little action there is, is rather subdued. 6.5/10

Will watch this. Some of the recent indie films Cage has done that everyone went crazy about I didn't care for but I'll continue to get enjoyment out of watching his fast decline into insanity.

Another Round (2020) Strange film. I have never seen alcoholism portrayed in this manner in a film. We liked it but it was rather easy to predict. And I was hoping it would end up the way it did. Unsupervised, what they were "wanting" to do, had to... eh... I don't want to spoil the movie, but sheesh. I love the "Hannibal" series. Mads Miks is a real talent and I likely wouldn't have given this a watch without him. I think they are going to remake this with Leo D playing that role. I like DCap just fine, but para and I asked, why not just recast Mads in that role? This fucking movie is weird and dumb and funny in bits, but we enjoyed it. None of it is how alcoholism actually works... ... and those poor, poor, students... 7/10

Monos (2019) I ahd never heard of this. It was a para suggestion, which I think she learned about from a mahoney suggestion in this thread? This movie is intense and way better acted than it had any right to be with it's young cast. Shooting as they did had to be more than difficult. RIP Shakira. I get the Lord of the Flies influence. Kids are morons. But the LOTF concept has never appealed to me all that much for storytelling. But this takes it into immersive set ups that had me edge-of-seat. Again, these young actors pulling off these performances in this harsh outdoor setting is remarkable. Loved it. 8/10

Great score from Mica Levi too.

I was unfamiliar with Mica Levi. The score just added so much the the existing depth of atmosphere. Also, apparently his nickname is Micachu, which I find mildly amusing as a Pokemon fan.

yeah I saw UtS when it came it out and enjoyed it. Perhaps I am more familiar with Ms. Micachu than I realised. Likely deserves another watch.

Bakester, your use of this thread has inspired me to make a comeback. No Sudden Move [2021] This was just OK. Really cool cast that it just doesn't do enough with. I've never been huge on Steven Soderbergh despite enjoying a few of his films. He just comes across too much like a director for hire these days + he used this fish eye lens in all the wide shots that just looked fucking weird. Worth a watch but I wanted more from it. 6.25

Villains (2019) 2 morons try to burgle what they assume to be a home without it's owners present and things go weird in entertaining fashion. Jeffrey Donovan steal the show in an exceptional, um, thriller?, with comedy? I want that brown car that got ditched. Also, Mickey should have just had sex with his captor. para and I give this a 7.5. Right at 90 minutes and it is fun.

Reading other reviews aren't far off from you.

It's worth a watch for the cast alone, just go in with low expectations & you'll probably enjoy it.
Zola (2020) Thought this was outstanding. The absurdity of turning a twitter thread into a movie pays off well. Really fun performances & plenty of memorable scenes. Felt like if Harmony Korine made a film with some of the storytelling arks Tarantino uses. Best new film I've seen in a while 9/10

Old (2021) the new M. Night Shyamalan film. Never been much a fan of his work tbh. This was fun up to a point then it really shit the bed in the final twenty minutes. Felt like a good prolonged twilight zone epsiode before that. Definitely had its moments & probably best to watch without seeing the trailer but that back end killed it for me.
Pig (2021) I didn't care for it at all, actually found it kind of aimless. I think I'd have preferred Taken with a mother fucking pig to what the film delivered. Just a real slog & felt so aimless. Can file next to Mandy in recent Nick Cage films that everybody lost their shit over that I didn't care for.
