I can understand where your parents were coming from Ana. I used to watch almost anything as a child, my parents never stopped me watching anything & I saw stuff which I guess you would call much more terrifying than Robocop as a youngster. However, the way they kill Murphy with absolutely no remorse always stuck with me & was one of the few things that I found quite scary in films at a young age.
I'd not seen it for maybe 15 years until earlier this year & I wasn't sure how it would hold up but I absolutely loved it. Definitely a 9 from me. Been meaning to get some of Paul Verhoeven's early films. Most directors would kill to of made films as iconic as Robocop, Total Recall & mother fucking SHOWGIRLS.

Cheech and Chong: Still Smokin [1983] What a comedown after 'Up In Smoke'. seems like they barely had a script for this, just threw in some live sketches & ideas, felt rushed & the gags were mostly awful. 4

That 70's Show season 5: This is where this sitcom kinda jumps the shark for me; the jokes become predictable and the actors just don't seem that into it anymore. The storylines are very 'light' and it doesn't seem to go anywhere, unlike the first 4 seasons. Shame. 6/10

Next Movie and Nice Dreams are well worth a watch though.

The Trouble with Harry (1955)
Blimey, can't believe how much i laughed at this. Possibly the funniest Hitchcock film i've seen, and a nice change from his usual murderous fare, loike.
Shirley MacLaine was bladdy lovely, too.

Think I'll go see Black Swan & True Grit when they get released over here. I saw them both yesterday... Black Swan No. I'm a bit thick, but I didn't really "get it". The wife loved it. Was visually stunning, and the acting was pretty good, but it felt like being in a bad dream half of the time (which is probably what Aronovsky was going for). 5/10 True Grit Fantastic. My favourite film of 2010. Jeff Bridges for a best actor nom, surely. 9/10

Lucky git. I can't believe in the age of the internet & whatnot there is such a huge gap between releases from the states to here. I'll probably end up downloading them both rather than paying to see them at the pictures now.
The Wire Series 1-5
Was alright
6/10

The gap is just cos they know they will get more influx when the films get Oscars and nominations, so they release it around February/March. I agree it's a shame though.

I honestly can't imagine in todays age that it will pay off for them though. I can only judge this on how me & my friends/family would operate but I can't see them being financially better off for this.
The Coens have the sort of following where people will go see whatever they release, sure by advertising & hype you can get more people to go see a film but I can assure you between now & February the 11th when it's released the majority of people would of gone 'fuck it' & downloaded it. I can see myself doing it should there be a good copy about.
Machete came out over here about four months after it did in the US, got no advertising push & was out of cinemas in a week or two. Had they released it the same time I'm sure they would made more dough.

Had they released it the same time I'm sure they would made more dough. Yup, I agree. It was the same with Machete here. Cinemas are just doomed basically, I give them about 50-60 years of life and then they'll be extinct. I saw two films last night: CoralineI'm a big fan of stop motion done this way, I was wowing half the time, and the story seemed pretty entertaining. If I were 13 or 14 I'd be all over it. I'm almost 27 and I was sucked in the story and the twists and everything. This is what Tim Burton should be going for, not another bore-fest starring Johnny Depp. 8/10 Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal SkullWhen this first came out I boycotted it, I had a pre-conceived notion that this would totally taint my love for everything Indy (including the TV series from the 90's-which rule btw). I was pretty surprised when I found myself almost cheering and laughing and going 'YES!' througout this film. And I'm starting to like Shia LeBeuf the more I see him perform, he's great! They should've made him do more funny shit, he's great at that. Anyway I'm glad I waited until I was psychologically ready to give this a spin, although the shit with the aliens kinda jump the shark a bit, I suppose it was a different kind of plot for the Indiana franchise. Can't wait for the 5th that's supposedly on the works. 7/10

Good review of Indie, it's definitely a decent/good film. People were such dicks when it came out criticizing every little thing about it. The Alien plot was a little far fetched but it's a fucking Indiana jones film, I really don't understand how people could be THAT offended by it, had they even watched the originals? Some of the shit that goes down in them is about as ridiculous as it gets but that's the whole point, we are in love with the Indie character & are prepared to let him take us wherever the film might take us. 'The nuclear war scene was so unrealistic' yeah because falling 300 feet in a rubber dingy & staying afloat isn't. Really annoyed me actually & thats with not being an insane fan of the franchise, was more of a Star Wars person as a kid.

I agree slightly with your reviews of Indiana, but being myself a great fan of the original trilogy I think there's a huge quality gap between them and the 4th. And whatever they did wasn't gonna be the same, there's only one Definitely Maybe too. I love going to the cinema and I agree it's a shame, but that's the way it is here, not with Machete though which won't get the Oscars it deserves
