The Elephant Man [1980] absolutely fantastic. Tempted to give this a perfect 10 but I already ranked a film that highly in the past week so I don't want to turn into a murphy Amazing film though, left me with all kind of emotions by the end of it. Anthony Hopkins is sensational. 9.5

I'd definitely seen the Elephant Man as a kid but I thought it was a really old version but that might just be because it's in black & White Either way, beautiful & touching film that almost made me shed a mantear. Yeah I quite enjoyed Rope when I saw it, great idea for a film & I HATE to say it but probably the sort of thing that could be remade today and work quite well. I noticed you liked The Trouble With Harry. That one felt far too dated for me, I didn't really enjoy any of the humour.

'the elephant man' is shit. I think I rated it very low, perhaps fargo low, on one of the previous forums. I thought it was a bit silly and that it had aged very very much and the story didn't have any meaning whatsoever other than "hey, let's see how many eggs we can throw at that rat faced man, the elephant man"

Can't agree with you there. Though the source material is old I don't think it's dated in the slightest because people DO go through these kind of experiences on a day to day basis. Even if it isn't as extreme as what happened to John Merrick you still have people who have to get up and deal with being psychically deformed, being looked at, laughed at, humiliated for their appearance to the point where they are made to feel they are not as worthy as somebody without any deformities.
Personally I found it to be one of the most touching experiences watching a film I've ever had & can only imagine a very cold person not being the slightest effected by watching it.
It's a simple story but there is much more than on the surface with questions being raised about the exploitation of humans, you only have to watch the TV to see programs about the Worlds smallest man or 'The Man with the Face of a Tree' & whatnot, they are being exploited in 2010 the exact same way Merrick was then. Then there is Hopkins's roll as the Dr which is just as important as the Elephant man's. He has to question his own moral beliefs & questions if what he is doing is for the right reasons.
You are so cold findia, so cold.

I noticed you liked The Trouble With Harry. That one felt far too dated for me, I didn't really enjoy any of the humour. It really made me laugh when the doddery old bloke was trying to get rid of the body. Was like a much better Weekend At Bernie's or summat It was just the lighthearted, carefree reaction the characters had to it all, rather than getting stressed and panicking like you usually get in these films. Really tickled me for some reason

think this is the start of you falling in love with lynch bruv Never The Straight Story [1999] Left me with a nice warm feeling inside. Such a little story yet so powerful. Kind of odd to think Walt Disney or David Lynch would make a film like this let alone make one together. So many lovely subtle touches throughout & nice to see that nothing overly dramatic happened towards the end as that was my fear whilst watching it. Also great to see Sissy Spacek on screen, I've only ever seen her as Carrie & in Badlands but they are two of the best performances I've ever seen so nice to see her 25 years down the line in her career still giving a good performance. 8.5

Really tickled me for some reason Yeah it certainly caught me by surprise when I saw it as I was not ready for a light hearted comedy. I'll revisit it one day but I've still got a bunch of his I've not seen yet so I doubt it will be anytime soon Have you seen The Wrong Man yet dan? I saw that recently & it's probably in my top 3 hitchcock films.

'13m2', Barthélémy Grossmann, 2007, france Strong drama about a young man in Paris who's contemplating to go up in the crime world. A story about life and its voes and foes really. Not trying to say anything, just portray it. Very good acting and the direction is pretty decent too. The director stars in the leading role. 8/10

L' ultimo treno della notte [Night Train Murders [1975] A very Sleazy & very nasty Italian film which was their take on Last House On The Left. Typical 70's revenge film but done really well & though the rape scenes aren't as powerful as in Last House overall the film is much better in every other department. Morricone score with some nice Harmonica parts. 7.5
