A few years ago I would of done that type of crazy shit. We get a slap on the wrist by the bald mods if we post links these days.

Nice shout on the Demos Mahoney. One of my best friends is pals with one of the members. He's a top guy and pretty much spent everything he owned to make the record. Plus he makes a great peppermint latte at starbucks. Saw them a couple weeks ago supporting 1,2,3. Some Japanese label might pick them up.
Agree on James Blake. I heard so many great things about him like he's like Jesus if Jesus was Elvis Presleys son. Then I heard him and continued to try to listen. Proper waste of fucking time

That's cool, I was surprised how good the production was soon as from what I could tell they had put it out themselves through bandcamp. Usually you'd expect it to be a bit rough round the edges but everything about it is done really well. Good luck to them.

You gonna buy the album and thus enhance the chances of a second album being made?

it's been a pretty lean for me this year- i've listened to a lot less new music than usual and nothing's really stood out
on the flipside i discovered tindersticks, charles mingus, i am kloot and the olivia tremor control
if i tried to take on karl's list i would wilt in the power of his magnificence- so i'll keep it simple
18. radiohead - king of limbs 17. the strokes - angles 16. bon iver - bon iver (apart from the unforgiveable last track) 15. cults - cults 14. iron & wine - kiss eachother clean 13. cats eyes - cat's eyes 12. fleet foxes - helplessness blues 11. yuck - yuck 10. i break horses - hearts 9. atlas sound - parallax 8. gruff rhys - hotel shampoo 7. destroyer - kaputt 6. action bronson - dr lecter 5. wilco- the whole love 4. the horrors - skying 3. pj harvey - let england shake 2. mikal cronin- mikal cronin 1. jonathan wilson - gentle spirit
that really is the only 18 new albums i've heard this year that i have any time for- but then i've listened to so little which probably shows
i don't think there's a great record among them, but they're all decent
pretty much the top 11 could be interchangeable
next year very much looking forward to the new shins record (out in march, called port of morrow) and watching janelle monae take over the world
her's was by far my best gig of the year and her glastonbury performance was the best thing i saw on tv this year
she just seems to get better and better live
a recent performance (close your ears for the moral soul searching at the start)

Glad you mention Jonathan Wilson, titch. I still don't know if he's gonna appear on my list but he was quite great opening for Wilco.

I love his album, it's one of about 5 that I've found myself going back to whatever my mood. Yeah, I thought he handled that support slot really well. I'm looking forward to catching him in a headline spot in a small venue now. I missed the borderline show but have tickets for scala in January.

Lovely, Karl. Had fun reading all that, and nice one on making the effort to explain each selection. Will be checking out some of your choices fo sho, though we have picked a lot of the same records this year! WHAT WONDERFUL TASTE TBH
Deffo check out Lykke Li's debut album too. 'Tis fantastic
My own list is virtually in the can, and I'll hopefully pop the link up in a few days. Only just punted out the film one, which took me blinkin ages!
Looking forward to reading more lists and posts from y'all

Awesome list Mahoney, I wouldn't have expected anything else.
Mines gunna drop next week, i'm in work on my own on Tuesday, with desrestricted internet access so it's the perfect time to fine tune my already monumental list whilst (why the fuck does that word look so wrong?) listening to the best of 2011. I HAVE A SOLID PARAGRAPH ABOUT EACH OF MY 50 ENTRIES!
Spoiler - One of Mahoney's 'Jankest Albums of the year' has made my top 50. Stay Tuned.
