Sad state of affairs. No doubt Willie Miller will find another way to fuck us over

And aye, Scottish football is fucked. Not just cos it's my club who's in the mire but the way every club/side of the coin etc is too busy bickering and being narrow minded to see that the game is going down the toilet and has been for years. the sniping, back stabbing, agenda ridden nonsense will kill us eventually.....and that's just the folk who run the game

I just can't believe the media/parts of the SFA seem to be going out of their way to try and preserve the status quo, as if our national game was in an acceptable state before Feb 14th.

Whatever the Rangers things means, be it Rangers starting from 3rd division/SPL with sanctions or whatever, this should of been seen as the opportune moment to rip it up and start again. No-one is blameless. The Rebel 10 look like they lack the balls to really force the issue. Celtic are too consumed with self-interest to allow any concessions. And Rangers look like they'll get off with long-term fraud and cheating with minimal punishment.

The current sanctions imposed are gutless by the SFA. They're so desperate to keep the Old Firm games, yet have punished Rangers in a way that benefit only Celtic.

Of course every team has self-interest at heart, but Celtic and the Rangers' administrators' blocking of the change of voting structure is crazy. Our game stands no chance of changing now. What we all thought is true: the entire game in Scotland is run for the benefit of two teams only, and fuck everyone else.

In five years time, Rangers will be back on their feet. Celtic will had 5 'free' titles, the other teams that make up the numbers will have had 5 shotties of getting knocked out of the Champs League at the very first qualification round and it'll all be back to normal.

Fuck it.

This is true. Scottish football has been taking the brunt of it for over a decade, but the finances of football as a whole just now is built on a house of cards that'll collapse big style in the not too distant future.

Bring it on.

People in Scotland will not suddenly stop playing football at a competitive level because one particular Glasgow club goes belly-up.

If Rangers are liquidated, the game will carry on. It really is that simple. Folk will forget about them soon enough. It's happened before in Scotland, it's happened elsewhere. Thousands of people will continue to play football and even more will pay to watch them. A tiny fraction of clubs in Scotland depend on Rangers. And even they'll learn to adapt.

No one to blame but themselves. Them's the breaks.

Dont think any Rangers fan is blaming anyone else but the last 2 owners that have run us into the ground.

But if you think that other clubs wont be affected then you're either naive or daft (or in your case slightly bitter at anything Rangers). Rangers have the largest traveling support in the country. For clubs not to have 5,6,7000 odd away fans coming to their ground twice a year WILL have an affect. Clubs, including Hibs, budget to have the Glasgow clubs fans through their gates 4 times a season. EPSN have already said there'll be no TV deal next year if we're not involved. What TV company is actually going to pay good money to see the Celtic wrap up the league in November???

If you cant see that the arse is falling out our game and has been for a few years, irrespective of Rangers going to the wall, then you're deluded.

The game needs a big shake up, from top to the very bottom. But it wont happen. The SFA and SPL are run by self obsessed arseholes

I'm non partisan obviously but this is clearly bullshit.

It will affect TV deals massively, what little money there is in the Scottish game will be cut hugely. This will affect everything from significant job losses to less money available to develop young talent and even less chance that your national side might compete at a half decent level again.

No club as big as Rangers within Scotland has ever gone bust. In fact I'm not sure whether any European league has had one of its biggest teams go out of existence, especially one where its one of two teams so much bigger than the others.

No one is claiming competitive football will die out completely but the impact will be massive.

"what little money there is" is the only part of that post that's not just a generalised heap of platitudes spouted by someone with zero knowledge of the Scottish game.

30 out of 42 league clubs survive without money from the Old Firm, 1/3 are full-time. The rest would cut their cloth accordingly. The Old Firm are not the money generators they were 10 years ago.

It really is that simple.

This

And it would be the same if an Arsenal / Man Utd / Chelsea went to the wall - admittedly the duopoly will exaggerate things slightly.

Yes TV revenue may drop - but its more likely to be shared around more fairly.

In terms of gates - teams have 0/1/2 fixtures against Rangers at home each year that will bring slightly exaggerated gates.

All these things can be budgeted for tbh.

Scottish clubs make 1.5 million TV money Brad, you get 60 million for getting relegated from the Premiership. You can't make the same comparison. Totally different worlds

the last few years Scottish clubs have all struggled. There just isnt enough money in our game. Last season Celtic made 180K profit and that included SEVEN Old Firms. Take the TV money away and the 2 gate receipts of 6k odd Rangers fans through the gates twice a year and yes the clubs would budget and cut their cloth.

But then that leads to less money to pay wages and a knock on effect to the standard of player in the game. Clubs will probably survive but to say it'll no have an effect is pish

Of course it will have an effect. What the big wigs are failing to grasp is that the standard is already pish, if it gets a spot worse then who cares. If, as a result of the standard dropping, the competitiveness increases, then everyone's a winner imo. It's not as if we're watching top class football week in week out at the moment is it?!

And if you finish in the bottom 6 you're likely to only get 1 game where Rangers and their lovely fans grace you with their presence. Big whoop.

If any one senior club in Scotland relies on Rangers or Celtic in order to survive then they deserve to go to the wall. No club though, in reality, does. How many clubs have went bust after relegation?

There are so many examples we can point to that proves conclusively that competitiveness in the SPL improves attendances far more than the minky tinks visiting twice a season. I mentioned in a previous thread how Aberdeen had a run of 20,000 against ICT, home sell out against Hearts, and 17,000 odd against Dundee United one year when we were pushing for 2nd around Christmas time. Contrast this to our home attendances this year against the Old Firm (now we're shite again) - which I'd estimate have been no bigger than 13,000.

Using Hibs as another example. They had something to play for on Saturday and got 15,000 at Easter Road. Also, last time they went to the First Division, their average attendances actually increased, and significantly so. The standard of football they were watching every week was far lower, they didn't have the benevolent Old Firm lining their pockets and filling their stands four times a season either. However, they had a chance of winning a league. Something that no team in Scotland, apart from Glasgow Utd, has had the chance to do in the last 20+ years.

Just to give it another angle. Dundee FC are worth far more to Dundee United than Rangers are. Yet, Dundee have been out of the SPL for years now, and United have gone from strength to strength and had some great moments. Proof that clubs can flourish without the cash injection of the 'blockbuster' games twice a season.

Of course there will be less money in the game as a whole if Rangers were to go out of it. No-one denies that. But given there is fuck all money at the moment, and what there is hoovered up by the top 2, it doesn't matter. What you're also forgetting is that there will be some sort of TV deal, even if it is absolute peanuts. If this is given an even distribution amongst all member clubs, then a few teams may even be financially better off!

Also, I don't really recall Rangers or Celtic being so insistent that they were the lifeblood of every other team when they were lifting their skirt to the English/European super leagues. I'm glad they have realised how much we rely on them now and are doing everything within their power to stay in this division, for our sake. How nice of them.

I wish they would fuck off. Our league would NEVER become like the Irish or Welsh league, despite what line gets trotted out by tired out hacks that are thick as pigshit. Considering the average attendance of the Scottish 1st Division (a league that doesn't have any TV deal, or Old Firm fans) is around 2.5 times that of the average of the Irish top division, I am certain the standard of our top division will always eclipse that of the Welsh/Irish league.

What a long post, but I'm really fed up hearing the bullshit that surrounds this argument. Mainly spouted by journalists who, to be fair, would be the biggest losers in an SPL without the Old Firm. Without gutter fans to buy their gutter press their game would be up, big time. Sooner the better I say.

Who cares what you get from being relegated. You are a cog in a wheel, one that has significant problems. The league will continue without you and as mentioned if any Scottish club goes to the wall because Rangers and their fake money prob deserves to join them.

In reality, I support a side that is prob good enough to be safe in the SPL on 5k gates and Fuck all tv money. We would survive. As will our Scottish equivalents.

I don't pretend to know the SPL, but I know L1/L2 finances which prob incorporate the bottom half
