Broadly speaking I agree with Karl. Their LPs were usually too inconsistent to be real classics, but Crazy Beat excepted I still don't think they've ever put out a bad single.
Leisure benefits from having There's No Other Way and Sing on it, otherwise most of the tracks are forgettable. Reckon the record label was definitely trying to get them to fit in with the scene of the day & it doesn't really work. Modern Life is Rubbish - for me this is their best record. It could do without Intermission/Commercial break and I don't have much time for Sunday Sunday, but otherwise it's their strongest record start to finish. Parklife - probably two or three songs too long. The singles are all classics but it's also the start of Albarn's transformation into the smug cunt of Britpop. Badhead, Message Centre and This is a Low are amongst their best works. Great Escape - classic example of a band trying to make their hit album again. It's a damning criticism of a 15 track album to said it could have made a great EP. Apart from the singles, the brilliant He Thought of Cars and a couple of other tracks it's crap. Think Albarn must've thought he was Ray Davies and that people would buy any "social commentary" he put his name to. Blur - as Karl said, brave album to put out at that time. It's not my favourite by a long stretch but I've got a lot of time for it. Can't see they'd have lasted as a band if they'd put out another britpop record. 13 - definitely the album I'm least familiar to, in fact I don't think I've listened to it in about 10 years. It still has Trimm Trabb so that's good enough for me. Think Tank - again, I really like it. Coxon's absence shows but that lets it take a completely different direction.

Parklife - Classic Think Tank - Hugely underrated Blur - They had some huge bollocks to come out with this record when they did. Modern Life Is Rubbish - Far too long, too much filler but when it's good it's great 13 - Always feel I should like this more than I do. It's a brave record with some great moments but still too many tunes that don't really do much for me The Great Escape - Decent at best, starts of great in a parklife part II kind of way, by the end I always wish I hadn't bothered Leisure - Dated horribly, definitely a band still finding their feet though still enough about it to not be a disaster. Agree about a thousand and fucking five one percent with this one actually including the descriptions, except for Leisure which I've never listened to cos everyone says its shite.

I really like The Great Escape tbh, can understand why it gets so much bashing but besides the big singles there are many songs that I dig on there and don't think I hate any. It might all be about the memories of listening to it on a cassette though.
Leisure is the worst of the lot, yeah, but still decent. Parklife is brilliant and the closest they'll ever get to a masterpiece. The rest are between the 3,5/4 mark, all are arguably brave records and unique in their sound and moment.

The Great Escape is an amazing record, but probably 4 track too long. As for Leisure, i think they didn't have much to say about the sound, it was more a record made by their label trying to find the new cool band.
