only fags that don't know the power of real rock n roll can complain about there being no decent guitar music today. the only "guitar" artists I can see in your list are people who were at the top of their game 40 to 20 years ago. This is hardly proof that guitar music still reigns. In the 80s or 90s, you would have had George Michael or Michael Jackson at the top of that list -- did it mean that real music didn't reign when The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Aerosmith etc were around? you have to consider the local phenomena and the modern trends, and the guy with the laptop clicks with "our" audience more than 5 lads in a band. As sad as it is, it mirrors this computer-centric age and the fact that modern generations know nothing about music. I think these things go hand in hand with technology. In the 80s new technologies were brought to the table, and people were naturally shifting towards that kind of music. We live in the digital age, and what people go for is this awful digital music. Now, at the end of a cicle, you should always get something totally antithetic that blows you out of the water. For example, when disco music was at its peak in the 70s, punk culture started to rise. Same with grunge in the 80s. We had a great wave of guitar music in 2001 - 2007, so it's only natural that other genre's are getting more attention now. You just make sure you keep an eye on Radiohead, cos if they make an electronic record, you know we're probably in the middle of an electronic age, and if they make a guitar record, we're probably living in a guitar age.

/thread Real music reigns. The god of all music that Roger Waters is still the king of kings. www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-18826218The Top 10 highest earning tours from November 1 2011 to May 31 2012 are: 1. Roger Waters' The Wall ($131.4 million/£83.6 million) 2. Michael Jackson: The Immortal Tour by Cirque du Soleil ($68.4 million/£43.5 million) 3. Bruce Springsteen ($52.4 million/£33.34 million) 4. In fact I hope there is never ever a great rock n roll band again, just to make the stones and floyd even more mythical and god like. FUCK YEAH!!!!!!. /thread Decent effort for springsteen considering from what I heard on the wireless, no major radio station in the states played his new album.

it may simply come down to a personal taste thing, and i have heard a resonably wide range of dubstep and almost all of it does absolutely nothing whatsoever for me. i find its popularity mystifying. with other genres i might not enjoy i can see the worth, or why people like it but dubstep bar a small handful of tunes passes me by totally.

Springsteen's where the rolling stones are (and oasis were before they broke up)...the new album doesn't matter, he could go on tour with no new album and sell out stadiums. Which is why that list is utterly pointless to this discussion. Waters is peddling a 30+ year old album and the ticket prices are exorbitant. The only people seeing him are 50-year olds with piles of disposable income. (Hell, I *love* old people music and Waters has played my town twice in the last year and I didn't bother going either time.)

Yup, nothing says "ROCK" like being on a list with Andre Rieu and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. And Mado--I mean, Lady Gaga. I think Axl's missing the point. All these legendary musicians...of course they're going to have successful tours. The point is that the NEW music that's coming out doesn't represent good wuality guitar rock at all. Unless I'm missing the point, because woman.

Unless I'm missing the point, because woman. I'm not missing the point at all. My point is that there is never going to be a band as good as the beatles or the stones, and there doesnt need to be. The great music of the past will live on forever, and will always be relevant, and therefore can never be in a "coma", ironically it will live on because of technology. Theres a teenager out there who's listened to the remastered beatles collection a few years ago who will one day write an amazing rock n roll album. Why does Appetite for destruction still sell 10 thousand copies a week worldwide? because its a great fucking record by an immortal band. Shit trends and musical phazes don't mean shit. The strokes in essence are a generic rock n roll band in sound, they came along at the right time and wiped the floor with everyone, and became "important". The same thing will happen again, and again, and again, and again, by law of probability. Everyone who's ever said "rock n roll is dieing" has been proven wrong - FACT.

Being in a coma does not equal dying. No one said rock 'n' roll is dead, but instead going through a bit of a rough slump, because of the technology and advancements making electronic music a lot more affordable, obtainable and 'enjoyed' by the newer generations. You cannot base your statements or points using bands that have existed for the last 30 years or so. Of course the classics will always be classics, no one's arguing that. We're talking about what's happening and coming out now, in 2012.

Yes, most likely, but this amazing rock 'n' roll album isn't likely to come out in the next couple of years. And if it is, it will have some sort of electronic sound to it, like most 'indie' bands these days.

I have a friend who's had about seven 5-piece rock n roll bands, none of them has succeded, bar one during 2005-2007 (surprise, surprise). No one here wants to go to a gig to see 5 guys playing instruments, sadly enough, they all want to get shitfaced looking at some guy with a Mac dropping the bass.
