Yeah, World's Not Set in Stone sounds quite good. I remember hearing the live version and thinking it was completely mediocre but it is one of my favourite songs from this batch. Shine a light gets on my nerves though.

I heard The World's Not Set in Stone at Heaton Park last year when BDI supported the Roses. At the time I was wired off cheap speed and apparently described it as a "shite slow number" to strip bar regular Rod MacNeil. But given the full studio experience, I think it sounds absolutely mega.
All the other slow acoustic numbers on BE have really grown on me, especially Soul Love. But not Ballroom Figured. Because it's shite.

Ballroom Figured reminds me of a shite DBTT era b-side like Won't Let You Down or The Quiet Ones.

the opinion you've al been waiting for.
I think it's comfortably better than the first album but admit the first album had a clutch of superior singles.

I know no one cares what I think but I just heard the album and nothing really stood out (as I worked on other stuff). It was ignorable background music, which is not a good thing. I was expecting something like Room on Fire, but I heard Angles instead. I don't know, I guess it's just not a band I'm looking forward to seeing live or buying any records from. If Liam weren't in it, I probably wouldn't even have heard it.
I give it about a 6/10 and that's a real fucking stretch.

I love Soul Love. I really like the way it goes slightly off key in parts of the verse. As you say, Baz, very different vocal from Liam.
While in the subject of Liam's vocals; I'm a big fan of Soon Come Tomorrow but the vocal melody in the verses can sometimes grate on me a little. While Liam undoubtebly sounds awesome, the melody just feels a bit awkward.

The words and the music don't quite hang together perfectly.

Christ! I think the answer to why the words and music don't hang together is because its an abysmal song written by an abysmal songwriter who would sell the rights to it in an instant if The Sun newspaper offered him enough cash.

He sold 'Only the strongest will survive' to The Sun to use on their TV advert. He's a complete and utter sell out. Had his moment over 20 years ago with Ride. Since then he has wrote shit song after shit song. His role in Oasis was embarrassing, his songs for Oasis were a disgrace. I feel sorry for Liam especially when he's in a band with Gem Archer aswell.

Nah, that's not the answer, Jimbo. It's the wobblieness of the vocal melody for me. It's not that it doesn't fit, it's just a bit odd. Probably 'cos we're not used of Liam pushing the boundaries of his voice like this. If Noel had wrote this song, his fans would be gushing over it.
