It's strange, on one hand I'm happily humming "ding dong the witch is dead" to myself, but on the other hand...I think I might miss the old bastard. United is going to be just another big team now, as opposed to the massive bogeyman looming over everything. I'm sure eventually Moyes will conjure up utter hatred like SAF, but now...not really.

As good as Moyes has been for Everton he'd be a fair old risk surely? Plenty of examples of managers doing well on smaller budgets, but not managing to cope with bigger budgets, expectations and egos. Yeh i'm fully in agreement with this, I honestly don't see where he's proven himself to be good enough to take the top job in football. He's never won in the league at Anfield, Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge or The Emirates and hasn't got a single winners medal. For a team that has been knocking on the door of the top 5/6 for the last few years you'd think he'd have at least won something or beaten a big team away from home. He's got a good mentality for the smaller squad, getting them playing for each other and battling really hard, but can he manage a big squad of superstars on massive wages? Can he handle a big transfer budget? His transfers at Everton have been very hit and miss thanks largely to the financial restraints he's had to work under, but he's signed some very good players and some awful players. I know loads of Evertonians and although a handful are still hopeful Moyes stays, some of them had already lost patience with him and wanted him out, the rest aren't really that bothered about him going they're just worried about who his replacement would be. Martinez would be good I reckon.

If nothing else, he has City's number.

Martinez would be good I reckon. a manager whose team is being relegated and near the bottom every season over a manager whose team are one of the most entertaining in the league and consistently finishing top 8? Not a chance. I'd much prefer Moyes over Mourinho. After so long with one manager, chopping and changing so frequently couldn't simply happen. Which would happen with Mourinho once he became bored and wanted to be back in the headlines. D V M (day veed moyes)

Do you genuinely believe Moyes hasnt signed any bad players??

But you said awful players, not bad.

With Everton's limited funds, there's no surprising he had to scrape the barrel.
Plus, none of the players were truly awful when he signed them; they just didn't work out for Everton. Fergie himself has also signed some stinkers over the years.

The lad at the Telegraph that broke the Fergie will quit story is saying that Moyes will be named manager within 24 hours.
Personally, I reckon he's as good a bet as any. Mourinho would have no interest at staying at Old Trafford longer than about 3 years. A club of United's size need to play a longer term game.

Jacobsen was a cheap squad player. bily is a talented player who couldnt handle the premier league. beckford was a free transfer. van der meyde was a talented player whose failings were entirely to do with his love of drink and drugs that he seemingly discovered in liverpool nuno valente wasnt a bad player even, let alone awful bent was an average player, same as valente. he was cheap and we got what we payed for Li Tie was to do with chinese sponsorship (wei feng on the other hand actually was awful) and not actually awful. had a decent spell in the championship, his level. Pistone isnt awful, he's average. which of these was actually a bad signing, let alone awful?

Thought at first, Moyes?! Top manager but hasnt got the elite experience united would need,
But the more I think about it, it could be the perfect fit. The united owners might have to show a bit of balls coz realistically it's difficult to imagine a guy whose top finish is 4th winning the league first season but ultimately it'll be evolution at united, whereas if Jose for instance come in, itd be radical changes straight away - he might win the title or whatever but then be gone in 3/4 years- and it all starts again. This way, the identity of united will stay the same.
