Sloan - One Chord To Another 6/10
Well then. Very openly Beatlesque, but at the same time enough of an alternative/indie sound to offer something different. It kinda depends on the song if it all works or not. At times it sounds like they tried to cram in as much stuff as they could, which in the grand scheme of things (ball cancer, NSA, Eddie's taxi thread) is neglectable, but it does make things a bit cheesy at times. Then again, for all the jolly piano and 'happy beatle rhtyhms' (don't like beatles), there's also great little bits and hooks all over the place which I do think are great. All in all a decent, solid album that I will listen to again, but not as good as Bryan Adams.

Wasn't very impressed with Sloan I must admit. The songs are well crafted, have good hooks & nice melodies but there's just no edge to anything. I think I'd have probably of enjoyed this about 6/7 years ago much more but now I just feel unless the songs are truly special then it just feels kind of flat for my tastes & unremarkable . Reminds me a bit of Brendan Benson's early solo work in places. Not bad but I think I'd rather have tried out their earlier grungier stuff as I'd imagine that'd have a bit more of an edge to it. 5.75/10 Btw, what shall we do about this fucking thread? Brad is due up next, shall we wait until after X-mas? I think this has died already

Wait until after Xmas, It's not dead. Personally i've spent the last few weeks hammering 2013 releases so I can do a reasonable end of year list.

(groans...)
Those are the two best songs on 'smeared', but if you like those, check it out (and 'twice removed', too...it's kind of a hybrid between these and the album I posted.)

Now I'd wait for the laggards to post their 2013 list, then we can move on.

Aye Actually gave Sloan a 3rd spin the other day and quite enjoyed it. Some of the songs are pretty dull but others quite hit the spot, there's a bit of variety there. I haven't and won't be deleting it from my collection so I guess that's a triumph for SRK. 6.5/10

I win. Again. CAMPEONES CAMPEONES OLE OLE OLE
This is like winning the league cup before I come back to regain my death-master title. Mahoney's rattled.
