Best share my thoughts then before The Soapbox Album Club! (the resurection) implodes.
Denim - Back in Denim
Really like the way this album can't decide what it is, the way the lyrics move between pastiche and more serious themes is brilliant. Musically it's spot on too, treading a similar path to the lyrics going between the sublime and the ridiculous. Haven't listened to it too much but when I have, i've really enjoyed it, can see this being an album that reveals more and more over time. Best 3 songs on there are Fish and Crisps, The Osmonds and so hilariously brilliant American Rock. 8/10

They still can share their comments... I would not stop it tbh, we can talk about two or three albums at the same time, WE'RE THAT BRIGHT. But yeah, commitment, boys!

Given myself plenty of time with the Denim record having never heard it previously. Primarily to see how it lays after multiple listens. The first few left me wanting. As JP puts it, it feels like a throwaway parody record of a period / style I'm not overly arsed about anyway. Not an overly good start then.
But familiarity helped greatly. At the start of the week found myself humming a few of the tunes in the office without realising until someone asked me what it was (Bubblehead for those who were wondering). If that isn't the trait of a decent pop record then I'm not sure what is. Back in Denim is ultimately a good slice of fun - which solid production and enough hooks to keep it interesting. A few tracks are too long for this style IMO but ultimately I'm glad I've spent a good few hours with it. It probably won't be a record I return to that often though. I'll give the other album a listen over the next few days.
7/10

It sounded to me a bit like Stereophonics, but worse.

After your comment, I fancied giving Jet's debut album a spin; I loved it when it was first came out and I was younger and far more impressionable. What a blast from the past. Even though it's not a very good album, there's a lot of great memories attached to it.

Listened to Virginmary's twice, I can't bring myself to listen to it again. I thought it was fucking terrible The vocals really make me wanna punch the cunt. I probably could of gotten into this if I was 18 again but I'm bored with most indie-guitar acts as it is, but this is the lowest kind. Worst of all though are the lyrics, I just found the entire record cringeworthy. It's like Towers Of TCOTU without the charm, without the bollocks, without the tunes. When they do try to rock a bit harder than your standard indie-rock it sounds really forced, "running for my life" is most guilty of this, a recycled Rage Against The Machine riff, ergh. Sorry Tux my man, you've recommended me some good records in the past so I will forgive you. 2/10

Let's not crucify Tucker for having such a shit taste, it's time to spread BAD AIDS for all the participants who haven't even reviewed the first record.

I think of by the 3rd record people have yet to bother with ton or tuckers choice we should either move them to the bottom of the list or just cross them off.

Main thing ruining an otherwise mildly tolerable album are the singer and his/her/their lyrics. Sounds exactly like the long haired smelly pimple in an AC/DC t shirt that was on everyone's school, but let loose in an overtly depressed state. The bit about picking mushrooms for a living was a welcome change though. Funny stuff. Apart from the length (acoustic stuff? at least there's some decent enough guitar in the proper album) and said singer I can't really fault it for what it is. All in all around a 5/10 Probably a bit harsh given all the garbage I've rated higher than this on RYM, but life is not always fair.

I think the acoustic stuff is just on the deluxe edition, ton.
Good review, though.

Gave it a spin on the way into work this morning, not sure if i've even got the patience to listen to it again. Will try and get through it a couple more times to see if anything reveals itself but it's not looking good.
