Yeah i reckon.
Probably 50% old stuff and 50% new. Just hope Stephen Street is nowhere near it.
Dockers seems to be in a decent place at the moment though.

I hope it's amazing tbh, some of those old songs are gold and Pete's never done wrong in my book

So for the new Libertines album they're going with a producer whose worked with Ed Sheeran, One Direction & Paloma Faith. How odd. Bringing here that discussion. It's a bit scary, isn't it? The Libertines songs always had that special quality where everything seemed on the verge of falling out and a clean pop producer would probably erase that. Although they have already released some shouldabeenahit like Don't Look Back Into The Sun, so let's see...

Yeah, although just because a producers track record tends to be cleaner, doesn't necessarily mean it'll be this time. A good producer, when working with a band like this, will recognise what is required of the songs. Mick Jones always says his job as the producer on the first two records was to just let them be raw and live.
Saying that Bernard Butler produced What and Waster & DLBITS, so it could work.
As a side note, Pete's best bud Alan Wass died the other day, apparently a couple of months ago he fell through a window and severed an artery in his arm and lost loads of blood, he had to have hours of emergency surgery to save his life. He died of a heart attack a few days ago.

It's a shame it was Wass and not Paul Roundhill.
I've gotta say i'm not holding out much hope for the album being great whoever the producer. I'd be delighted to be proved wrong, but just can't see it.

Dockers seems to be in a decent place at the moment though. had a feeling he'd come out the otherside. just not on record. :wank:

There's a new Libertines on YouTube.
I like the tune but the production sounds a bit murky. Doesn't sound like any of the music has a chance to breath and it's all just been thrown in the melting pot. Hopefully it's just from a shitty stream or something.

I thought they were shit on 1st listen but really like them a day later. Nothing can live up to 'Up The Bracket' but would say they're better than most of the libertines album. Looking forward to the tour in the winter.

For me they pale sadly next to most of the second album. They are average babyshambles and DPT songs.
Granted I'm judging them on a couple of listens. Will give them another go.

At the moment, to me anyway, the Glasgow song sounds like a second rate Can't Stand Me Now, Anthem for Doomed Youth like a second rate Albion and Gunga Din like a Babyshambles b-side

It's true i'm afraid. I am miserable and old.
I need to give them a few more listens- it seems i have the minority view and am probably wrong.
I've ordered the album and will give it a fair crack when i get it.

Glasgow Comma Whatever sounds quite good, like Boys in the Band played safe. The other one hasn't grown on me too much but I've been trying not to burn them. Really hope they don't turn Waterloo into a Solve My Mystery.
