NME rated it lower than that Miley shit (7 vs 8), I'm lowing my expectations tbh.
Having said that... That guy on the link you put ("When was the last time you listened to The Libertines?" and three other references in just the first two paragraphs) makes me think something I usually see when people talk about The Strokes. They're not just nostalgia acts to remember your youth, they released some of the best fuckin0 music of the last decade. So many people who didn't really like them then (or not that much) seem to be now reviewing their albums like "yeah, fine but not for me". I still listen to them knowing they won't reach those high levels of quality, but I will probably find something that makes it worthwhile and that I can't find elsewhere.

Yep, fair points.
I pre-ordered so will give it a listen when it lands and then judge. It was never gonna be another Up The Bracket, I just hope it's not a late Shambles/DPT hybrid.

Pitchfork's given it a pretty good 7.7 review

Incredible how Pitchfork consistently manages to misjudge all UK albums of note. I bet they fucking hated the Libertines first time around.

Quite like this one, although the chorus is clearly the weakest part of the song. But oh the verses, they give birth to those so effortlessly...

Had my doubts but it's a good record this. I think it's going to grow aswell. Nothing wrong with the Pitchfork review either. They have it spot on.

Barbarians is a great opener. Like a drunk 'Last Post On The Bugle'.

Those synths kill Fame and Fortune on first listen. Real shit synths. Shit. Carl is singing very well though and I like the chorus.

Some messed thoughts on first listen, but I wasn't paying full attention to it sadly (for me). Also a better quality rip should be on the way, KARL WAIT. -Much lighter on the whole, but I quite like the careless easy sound of it all. -Carl sounds raw, Pete sounds fine. -Clean production doesn't hurt tbh, it mostly fits the songs. -The end of The Belly of the Beast -Still not sure about the Waterloo remake, used to love the good ol' one but it's one hell of a song anyway. -The chorus of Gunga Din is BIG BIG BIG, but I already knew it. -If they had wanted to do it just for the money they would have gone for more rockers and faster silly songs. They haven't. -"You'll get by, you'll get by with your wicked little smile" -Title track is the only one that hasn't grown on me from the ones I had already heard.
