peter gordon is a guy who did a load of stuff with arthur russell.
i was a bit disappointed with it on first listen. i really liked the music gordon brought to the album but thought burgess' contribution felt a bit half arsed. hopefully it will grow.

I get where you're coming from, the music is certainly more important. But rather than half-arsed i prefer deliberately understated, but it fits for me.

Diggin what I've heard from Public Access TV, NY lad-y guitar music like it was 2003 all over again. Naysayers abstain.

Nick Cave album is brilliant but expectedly heavy going. Can't wait to see the film tonight.

Has anyone mentioned Let's Eat Grandma yet and their brilliant, weird, scary, feel good, pop record- I,Gemini?
A pair of teenage girls from Norwich, who've been friends since they were young kids. Fantastic stuff, and by all accounts a bit good live too. Playing Oval Space in TCOTU on 2nd November, and Dreamland, Margate (If ever a venue suited an album, it's this) in October I think.

Anyone tried the new Wedding Present one? Didn't even realise it was out.

Not sure if Let's Eat Grandma were talked about here, think they were. I can understand the fuss and the fuzz and that, but I don't fully digest the record. It's well-made, weird, mature and immature and shit, but it's less fun than it should be imo.

I think I recall Mahoney talking about it?
I tried it when it came out and after 1 listen, it wasn't for me. Maybe I should try it again?

Yeah was disappointed with the new Wedding Present album, their worst ever for me I reckon. Let's Eat Grandma is enjoyable and they're quite mesmerising live.

I'd like to see how Let's Eat Grandma develop live tbh.
Decided to wait for watching the film this evening before listening to the Nick Cave record

Loved the film, what a brooding piece. Nick is such a unique character and it was the main reason why it doesn't enter tearful territory (I mean, more than necessary). Could have been hours listening to just his poetry with those images floating. It's beatifully filmed and I think the whole project is more than justified and well exposed. It surely has to be a joy to film Warren Ellis, the camera just loves him. And of course I also loved the music, can't wait to spin the record. It already has broken what I said last week about records from artists I already like.

yeah the film was good. its not the sort of thing that would have any crossover appeal though to people who aren't already fans as there wasn't really any development or narrative as such. i found it fascinating seeing the more fragile side of nick as i guess to me he's always been this cool as fuck guy who is above human emotions and just exudes confidence.

Sure, definitely for the already converted people. But having said that, I think I enjoy it more than the record on its own. Plus there's all the poetry and that little piece with Nick on piano and Warren improvising, I'd like to hear a complete version of that song.

The film was brutally intense, I found it very moving. The entire cinema sat in silence until the last credit rolled, I've never seen anything like it. There were grown mean in tears as I left the cinema. I think the moment people realised it was his son singing the version of Deep Water over the end credits, it really hit home more.

Intense and moving, but in a way only Nick Cave can redirect to poetry, music, art, philosophy, surrealism. The topic was so terrible that I was very worried about the film being too dark or voyeuristic, and although the director enjoys himself a bit too much at certain moments, it's all worth for all the nice shots he gets. It feels necessary, that's the biggest success imo.

Only time I've seen that was at an afternoon showing of Twelve Years A Slave. And then no-one uttered a word until outside the cinema.
