Fucking hell. The Nick Cave album is brilliant. Mesmerising melancholy. From tragedy comes great art. Two of the very best this year in a similar vein (Bowie and this).

Yeah, I thought about that bond too but truth is the results are very different, if both great.
Go watch the film if you haven't.

Had my first listen of the new Nick Cave last night. Well, kinda second as you hear most the tunes in the film. Great record & one that sounds like no other they've made. I think The Bad Seeds really step it up on this record, it doesn't feel like Nick has written these songs in a traditional way he'd go about things, I was expecting a boatman's call style record but this is completely unique in his/their cannon. Feels like Nick had been writing a lot & the Bad Seeds have organically moulded those pieces into some of their most haunting & atmospheric music they've ever created. Also if anyone's ever heard much of Warren's soundtrack work you can definitely hear that he's had a big influence in how this turned out. Also has to be noted is Nick's vocals, there's a fragility to his voice that I've never heard before, there's a track or two where he sounds almost like a new person. Can't wait to sink my teeth into this record over the next few weeks. "I Need You" gave me goosebumps. Who provides the female vocals on Distant Sky? Also looking forward to seeing Hell or High Water which Nick & Warren have scored. Could've done without seeing Nick in his training gear in the film though

Titch, I've mentioned Let's Eat Granda a few times in the rate your last gig thread. The album though not perfect, is great in places. I think they show a ton of promise. Very interesting live too, I saw them at the back end of 2015 & they left a big impression where there were so odd in a mesmorising kinda way that I wasn't entirely sure what to make of them. Seeing them after the album had been out at Latitide made it all make sense, definitely go check them out live as they are quite a refreshing act to watch.

Any fans of The Walkmen? I fucking loved them and love Hamilton Leithauser's voice, possibly more than anyone else in rock music right now.
Anyway, obvs he's written so many fantastic songs and this is the latest. All three tracks available on Spotify are decent, but this stands out.
Can't wait for the album.

There's a cool tv performance where he tores his voice out. I must say I feel like he's been singing the same song for 15 years

I've just started putting a Walkmen (with a couple of solo bits) playlist together. Give this is a shuffle. I think most of these songs are as good as Rat. Some take a few listens.

Sat listening to the Nick Cave album at work and Distant Sky just had me on the verge of being a blubbering mess. So understated yet so powerful.
The whole record is just an amazing thing. I'm still struggling to put into words exactly but it's absolutely blown me away in a way I didn't expect.

Anyone heard new Pixies yet? I've had a couple of listens via a stream and it seems pretty good. It's better than Indie Cindy.

Gave it another spin while grafting. It's obviously not as good as their classic records but it's not really fair to compare anything to those albums because they are so good.
Of the 3 singles (Um Chagga Lagga, Tenement Song & Talent) I think it's Tenement Song that really shines in the context of the album. Um Chagga Lagga is great anyway but I wasn't instantly sold on Tenement Song right away. It's placement on the album adds something though I'm not sure what. Talent is just okay; not amazing but not awful. The context of the album does nothing for it.
I do think that the vocals sound a tad over produced/processed but I can live with it. Musically, I think the production is spot-on. It's sounds gnarly/scuzzy and polished/shimmering in exactly the right places.
Also, Paz is a breathe of fresh air. Sure, she's no Kim Deal but she does a great job here.
Head Carrier is a solid 7/10 album for me. It's got just the right blend of that menacing sound the Pixies can bring to the table and the infectious hooks and melodies they are so good at crafting.
