Glad you enjoyed it, I thought you would. I will say this though, don't go see him anytime soon again as I saw him within the space of a few weeks twice & he repeated the same old bollocks again but as a one off he's great. Jesse Malin last night @ islington Academy. A Million Years supported, some irish band, very average 5 Jesse Malin He is just the biggest cheesey cunt ever & his band ALL look like ridiculous rock posers, it really put me off tbh it just seemed really sad watching them. Band were good though & Jesse's knack for a big hook never fails so he got the hits out which was pretty good but then midway he did some 5 minute chat/intro into a song which completely took me out of the gig then at the end he got in the crowd and got everybody to sit down which is the sort of thing JP would of loved but for me it was completely shit & he told some tired cliché story about 'punk' music that went on forever & really made my blood boil So, weird gig really. 7

hes been doing that sit down thing for at least 5 years now. thought it was cool the first time but it fucks me off now too as you know its coming every single gig. would be alright if he just did it every now and then. billy bragg was funny. ive been going to gigs for nearly 10 years now and have never really seen any trouble. but last night there was a huge fight right at the front during the middle of one of billy braggs speeches and this woman started screaming her head off and then there was this big thud from where someone had smacked her. billy bragg stopped mid speech and went running into the crowd going OI OI LEAVE IT and about 7 security jumped in to take the bloke out, then the woman kept screaming despite billy trying to calm her down so she got dragged out too all those years of gigs and no trouble, last one i expected to see a huge fight at was billy bragg. the crowd was full of middle aged guardian readers ffs

I find you get more trouble with middle aged crowds, you get many who havent been for years or who don't understand that you are going to get people bumping into you & whatnot & overreact to it. Best one I saw was during the Stands, as at the UNI venue & there was 3 really drunk students being pricks jumping into everybody, they went flying into some bird & her boyfriend was stood next to her, he was only about my size but built quite well, he just launched two punches on the first bloke & one on the other, both floored & the 3rd bloke sheepishly disappeared to the back It was during some Stands ballad as well Howie Payne was singing looking down on it Real funny

saw the wedding present tonight.
started off with a mini set spanning their whole career, then they played this montage of john peel saying the wedding present on the radio with about 100 different variations, then he goes "and now we will play the bizarro album, beginning with brassneck" and the band kicked into action and played the whole thing.
theyre a fucking ace live band, but this wasnt quite as good as last time i saw them i dont think as bizarro isnt my favourite album of theres. still a great night though.
8.5/10

Went and saw Atlas Sound at Maxwell's last night. It was pretty good. For those unfamiliar, Atlas Sound is the dude from Deerhunter's side project. A friend of mine needed someone to go with so I went along as it was free and close + Maxwell's is a great place. I was pretty much completely unfamiliar with the music, but I enjoyed it a lot. 7/10 man that Cox guy is gangly as hell though.
The same venue hosts Yo La Tengo for a weeklong stand every year at this time and The National opened for them the other night. I wanted to go, but tickets are virtually impossible to get or were for me as they were on sale well before I got back. Oh well, that'd have been amazing.
Love the venue. Its in Hoboken. I'd been there many times before and its nice that I can walk to it (about a 25 minute walk).

Me & Superjohnny are at 1,000 tonight. Should be special. Started out with all the singles in order. Then the best of the rest including Heart+Soul ('ave it!!!). Had a member of Rob's late father's band The Call on to do 'Windows', played a message from Iggy Pop and did a cover of his, Rob then did a medely of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper and Dirty Old Town by The Pogues, and then played some of the new album. Gig of the year for me 10/10

Chrissie, they did 'Real Wild Child' ... didn't know it was a cover of a cover.
Setlist Love Burns Red Eyes and Tears (no reprise) Whatever Happened to my Rock'nRoll? (it's around this point that the audience starts to wonder whether they're playing the first album in full...) Spread Your Love (...but evidently not) (Rob explains that they're playing a bunch of songs in 'the order in which they came to us') Stop Six Barrel Shotgun We're All in Love (!!!) Heart & Soul Devil's Waitin' Shuffle Your Feet (acoustic) Ain't No Easy Way Weight of the World (full band) Took Out a Loan Berlin Weapon of Choice Windows (tribute to Michael Been with Tom Ferrier, guitarist with The Call) ----- Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (Rob acoustic, audience request) Dirty Old Town The Wild One (Johnny O'Keefe cover, with recorded intro and Michael tribute from Iggy Pop, who apparently wanted to be there in person, but was unable to be) Beat the Devil's Tattoo Bad Blood Half State Conscience Killer Shadow's Keeper Open Invitation

It was a mega gig. I don't remember the set feeling that long at all but they definitely played all those tracks.
Top gig, probably not as good as the Ballroom gig earlier in the year but still magic. The pub before/after & whole day was mega though

I don't go to many gigs.
Manics at The Metro Theatre (1500 capacity) in November was pretty special - might be the best gig I've ever been to.
James' vocals and guitar playing was stellar and the set-list covered just about everything (at least one song from each album bar Lifeblood and Journal For Plague Lovers) - could have done without "She is Suffering" and "Suicide is painless" but "Your love alone", "Faster", "You love us" and "All surface, no feeling" were surprising and amazing.
Being in such a small venue, and their being not such a big deal here meant that everyone in the audience was a huge fan - so every song was a singalong - it was like a religious experience (only other gig that compares was the Noel/Gem acoustic show a couple of years ago).
10/10.
