Noel Gallagher & The High Flying Birds - Milano, Italy ----------------------
I can understand a lot of criticism that Noel gets in here and in other places. He is pretty dull these days, he comes off as quite a bitter man etc. But I really, really loved this gig. I am almost ready to put it into top 3 of favourite Oasis-related concerts I've been to.
I don't know why any of us are suprised that the setlist is static. It's been like that throughout the Oasis era as well. But as the setlist is always very static it means something else must be added for making it more interesting and special. With Liam on stage you still had that edge, that something unpredictable could happen. Without Liam and with no change in setlist it gets a lot more difficult for Noel and the band to break through the montonous barrier. Thank God for the Italian crowd though. From the start it was full on and you could see Noel stepping up a gear and really giving his all. Sure, during Talk Tonight it was like standing in a crowd of Borat impersonators: "I wanna talk-eeeh tonight-eeeeh", but that joy and that love from the crowd for every note and every word was exhilirating. I've been to two Oasis gigs before in Italy and it's always been similar to this.
I say the gig gets an 8 out of 10. It looses two points because I can't understand why he can't play Rockin' Chair or something instead of fucking Wonderwall. And Supersonic acoustic was a nice little oddity back in the day but it's so bland compared to let's say an acoustic Slide Away.
The three part rocket at the end was quite something though. Even though written down it sounds pretty horrid: Little By Little The Importance Of Being Idle Don't Look Back In Anger
But the hair stood on my back during that part. It was inevitable standing in the middle of that Italian crowd and with Noel in such a form.

Friday night I went to that artrocker gig. Despite getting in for free I spent a small fortune. All the taps were off so it was bottles only all night, fucking cocks. I hate shoreditch so much, I walked into the bar room where the DJ's were, everybody was dressed like a right cunt. Also hearing people speak you just knew they were ALL wrongon's. Was in there for a bit paying no attention to who was DJ'ing as it was so quiet then noticed it was Jim Reid. He turned it up a little bit and some organiser told him to turn it down so Jim turned it up as far as it would go and my god it was loud It was so funny he just sort of smiled as he knew he was gonna get told off, I turned around and gary newman was behind me with his fingers in his ears Needless to say Jim had a row with this dickhead then walked off real funny. Also saw Tim up there later, he had ginger hair, big thick glasses and a hat what would only ever be worn by a French artist. He looked even worse than his tranny phase! As for the bands I saw some band called Computers, or maybe the computers. Was a loud hives type deal, not very good. Gruff did his usual solo set which of course was good but many technical problems with his equipment/toys not working properly let it down. Then The Jim Jones Revue who were really fantastic. I've listened to them on record a bit and I do enjoy them but they are just one of them bands you should see live even if you are not arsed about their music. 50's rock done garage style with a hint of J&MC. Really enjoyed them. Yesterday saw the kills at brixton. Trailer Trash Tracys were on first, one of the most dull bands I've ever seen. They had no tunes at all. then saw Josh T. Pearson for the third time in a week. Brilliant and as charming as always. Unfortunately having one man with an acoustic guitar at brixton academy is never gonna work properly, you could just hear people talking throughout the set yet I think he won alot of the crowd over with his shit jokes. The Kills were much better than I'd hoped for. Originally was only going cos it was a saturday but they really surprised me. Had 4 drummers and 6 gospel singers on a bunch of tracks. Played mostly the latest two records which is fine as they are the two I dig. Turned out to be a good night. Today I think I'm gonna go see Josh T Pearson again He's at rough trade West at about 4 then off to see de la soul which I hope is as good as everybody tells me they are. Shame it's on a sunday, gigs are always strange on sundays.

Wish you'd got a pic of him holding his ears, would have made a great signature.

Shed 7 last night was bloody brilliant, Chasing Rainbows at the end was epic, and they covered Panic by the Smiths in the encore

so went to see Josh T. Pearson (again) sunday at Rough Trade in Notting Hill. Tiny store, maybe 60 people could fit in there. He came in and stood on the counter right in front of where I was stood & did a small set. Fantastic as ever. Took a few pictures which came out pretty good I thought He did a signing after the set so I got him to sign a vinyl copy of the album. Was talking to him for a little bit, lovely guy. He asked if I played, I said yes - badly, so he wrote keep on rockin' in the free world on my record Then went to indigo at 02 to see De La Soul. 3 fucking support bands, all from the UK, all completely jank & I mean really shit. The DJ inbetween bands and before de la soul was great though, played buffalo stance, such a moment. Don't think the gig was near sold out as there was plenty of room. Despite being a sunday & in a shithole De La Soul got the crowd going & it was very entertaining. Wished they'd done more from 3 feet high and rising & the set was a little too short for my liking but I'm glad to of finally seen them. Hopefully next time it'll be at the jazz cafe and on a saturday night rather than in fucking Greenwich.

Prince on saturday night. 2 hour house-party! (In a hockey arena holding 15000 people, but still...) 8/10

Forgot to mention: lots of people wearing purple at Prince. What's more ridiculous: wearing a Man City shirt to an oasis/Bdi/noel show...or wearing a raspberry beret to a prince show? I think it's the former....but not by much.

2 gigs to catch up on, there should have been more but i've got cash flow issues at the moment.
Neon Indian at Night and Day, Mcr.
Really fucking shit, his new album is pretty good but this performance was total gash. From the moment the singer started to prance around like a complete bellend I couldn't get into it at all. The sound wasn't particularly good either. The whole thing had no vibe to it at all. Support was jank too, a horrible band called 'patterns'. 3/10
Lemonheads at the Ritz, Mcr.
This was the It's a shame about ray tour.
Bit of a strange gig really, after coming on solo and doing 'being around', the rest of the band came out and they absolutely blasted through the entire album, seemingly without pausing, I swear it was over in about half an hour. Evan's voice on top form as usual and the songs sounded great, it was just a bit rushed and Evan was as usual not in a good mood. After Ray finished he came back on and did a ruck of songs on his own, which didn't really go down well. It just felt like a comedown really after the buzz of hearing the album in full. The band then came back on and they did loads more songs off the other albums. Then the band fucked off and Evan did a song with the uber hot support artist Meredith Sheldon, followed by 3 more songs on his own then rounded off by finishing with the band playing Great Big No, Style and Into Your Arms. A real marathon set.
It wasn't the best paced gig to be honest and as much as I loved the Ray songs and various other parts of the gig it could have been much better thought out.
Another moan was the crowd, one of the most boring crowds i've ever seen for a gig. No one moved a muscle throughout, I think they were enjoying it as the applause was hearty after each song but FFS EXPRESS YOURSELVES YOU BORING CUNTS. Our lot were the only people doing anything but trying to have a party halfway back when everytime you bump into someone they glare at you makes it very difficult. Even with the gripes, the songs were so good i'd give it a 7/10.

the recession is starting to seriously bite in liverpool, venues are closing left right and centre, friends who promote gigs are a bit exasperated, a mate put on kitty daisy and lewis two weeks ago, only 200 people showed when they sold out 350 about 6 months earlier...

Was possibly as much as 3/4 full which isn't too bad for a venue that size. Was hard to tell though as there was no clamour for people to get to the front as the crowd were real shit. So people were pretty spread out making crowd estimation very tricky.

Stocky, I can see what you mean about the pacing however the best Lemonheads gigs Ive seen have been there it's been kind of like that. Band, Evan, band, Evan. I dunno, I just fucking love that band. True nobody usually gets too involved, it's usually just me singing every single lyric as loud as I can and people giving me funny looks
