like titch, the new laura marling has really hooked me in now. i said earlier i thought it was as good as anything she's done and i think now i can confidently say this is my favourite album she's ever put out. can't wait to see her live next week. Seriously, you're in for a treat. Tonight was even better than Friday. She is unbelievably good these days. I can't think of a better voice in recent times for the kind of thing she does and she does everything from Joni Mitchell via twee English folk, bluegrass, Americana, straight country, pure soul to simple singer songwriter. It's not just that she has a really good voice, she knows how to put it to best use too. Plus great lyrics, plus great guitar playing (at times the picking was seriously good), plus great bloody songs too. And the set list is bang on. And the backing singers add so much. And and and. I'm gutted I won't see her again on this tour. Edit: forgot to mention that her recorded stuff doesn't show her voice off at all. Live it's a whole new thing.0

nice one
the gig i'm seeing her at in norwich is a solo one so no band or backing singers so will be quite the different vibe from what you've just seen by the sounds of it but i'm still really looking forward to it. i'm hoping those songs stripped back and performed in what for her is a really small intimate venue will be really special.

She did three or four numbers solo acoustic and they were every bit as mesmerising as the others.
Any idea what time the last train back to TCOTU from Norwich is? I'm so tempted! When I got back last night I checked out trains to and hotels in Wrexham FFS

JP- her live solo session on Spotify is excellent - and that was from a few years back.

really enjoying the new british sea power on first listen, it seems their most immediate since do you like rock music. not sure if this is a good thing in the long term though as normally i find with british sea power i enjoy their albums more and more with repeated listens whereas the more immediate ones tend to spunk their load all at once.

Yeah, i'm pleasantly surprised as I wasn't overly keen on the singles released before, they felt a bit light, but they work better within the confines of the album. It reminds me a bit of Open Season in that it feels intentionally lighter and breezier and a bit 'straighter'. Saw them do an instore at Rough Trade last night and they did the album straight through and it worked well live as well.

pleasant surprise to see the charlatans announcing a new album for may today. the last one is possible my favourite thing theyve ever released so hopefully they'll continue on a good run. I'm managing my expectations on the new Charlatans LP. Last time they put out two good albums in a row was Us & Us Only and Wonderland, which somehow is 16 years back. New single gets its first play tomorrow...

Enjoying BSP, both singles I wasn't impressed by but definitely works better on the record. The stuff from Vahalla Dancefloor I felt the same about. Only heard the record twice, first half is great, second half maybe not quite as good tho I liked it much more second time around. Definitely another good BSP record.
Been enjoying Craig Finns new record & that Mount Eerie LP is just fucking soulcrushing. It's lyrical torture porn, that song where he sings about his counsellor dying two months after his wife is so brutal that I almost feel like laughing.
Downloaded quite a bit of new music recently that I'm looking forward to giving a go.

The Drums drop a new album in June. Sadly, Jonny is the last of the regular members.
I quite like the song though. I wasn't a huge fan of the last album but this one seems to be more jangly and guitar driven and less synths.

The new Dylan triple (!!) album of old standards is unsurprisingly poo. I'd rather have a shitty album of bobby originals than a competently performed covers album that puts me to sleep.

Really loving the new BSP album. The run of tracks from Bad Bohemian to Electrical Kittens is flawless.

A few records I've been enjoying lately.. The Moonlandingz - Interplanetary Class Classics It's a collaborative record from Lias & Saul of the Fat White Family with the Eccentronic Research Council, recorded with Sean Lennon. it's not a million miles away from the Fat Whites really, it's certainly poppier. It's sort of a dirgy electro pop record. Probably won't be for everyone, but I really like it. The Courtneys - The Courtneys II Enjoying this a lot, have to admit that the debit passed me by, but this has hit. It is a little samey, but I like the cohesion and when a record is 38 minutes long, you can get away with it. Also enjoying an EP released from a more local band called Dead Arm, I know the guitarist from this band, he also has a couple of other projects I really like, check them out. They're sort of short, sharp, punkyish songs, but with some great hooks. Female fronted with some acerbic and witty lyrics. permanentslump.bandcamp.com/album/clare-jon
