Just realised Happyness have a new album out today. They seem to fill the gap that Girls left behind.

Technically a 2016 album but...HMV Canada is going out of business so I went in yesterday and grabbed anything I could that was left for about $3 each....and picked up Kula shaker's new one. Listening to it now and I think j paid about $2.99 too much. One or two good tunes though, but...why does this exist?

Enjoying BSP, both singles I wasn't impressed by but definitely works better on the record. The stuff from Vahalla Dancefloor I felt the same about. Only heard the record twice, first half is great, second half maybe not quite as good tho I liked it much more second time around. Definitely another good BSP record. Been enjoying Craig Finns new record & that Mount Eerie LP is just fucking soulcrushing. It's lyrical torture porn, that song where he sings about his counsellor dying two months after his wife is so brutal that I almost feel like laughing. Downloaded quite a bit of new music recently that I'm looking forward to giving a go. I tried the Mount Eerie album a few weeks back but wasn't really paying too much attention; it was just background music and I wasn't really feeling it. Listening again now, intently, and fuck. I'm only 3 tracks in and it's pretty heartbreaking in places.

Yeah I can see that. Musically it's very minimal & tbh probably not that interesting, but lyrically it's something you're not going to forget once heard properly.
Happyness sounded great on first listen tho I'm a little disappointed that the 2 best songs were already released on an EP last year. Still, excellent stuff.

Have to say I found the BSP record entirely forgettable. There's nothing on there that stands up in the same way as Machineries of Joy or Zeus, tbh. Bad Bohemian prob ranks as the worst single they've ever put out.

I still really love the BSP record.
And man, that Mount Eerie album is really something else. I listened to it 3 or 4 times yesterday. I don't recall the last time I got so lost in an album.

I'm still reeling from the Sun Kil Moon and Nick Cave records. I haven't been in a good enough mood since to tackle the Mount Eerie record.

It really is a gutwrencher, probably more so than the Nick Cave record, purely because it's so literal and explicit.

That was a joke. I can't wait for his new album. Would rather Bono wasn't on it though.

Was listening on the train home yesterday and it almost broke me, especially the songs where he is mentioning his daughter. It's not a pleasant album to listen to but it's one of the most incredible things I think I've ever heard in terms of how it moves you and feelings it evokes ( at least for me)

yeah mount eerie is my album of the year so far. glad so many on here are "enjoying" it. completely the wrong word but you know what i mean. as kev says there's no metaphor here it's pure stream of consciousness and one of the most real albums i've ever heard. must have been a pretty brave thing for him to do even writing this album let alone putting it out for public consumption.

Profiting off of his dead Wife's corpse, he's worse than Eric Clapton!

Pretty close to the top of my list as well. It's really stayed with me since my first proper listen through and I find myself suddenly drifting off and thinking about it. I don't think I've ever had that happen to me before, at least not to this degree. What really is staggering to me about the album is how he doesn't just fall to pieces. I've had a hard time holding it together as the listener so for him to perform them and hold it together is just absolute what the fuckery to me.

The Craig Finn album is really good, isn't it? God In Chicago is stunning.
