I just listened to that new J&MC song, it isn't new at all  It's Dead End Kids which is a single Jim released on his own about 10 years ago! I saw him upstairs at the garage around the time it was released. Lazy cunts. The "solo" version is much better and sounds more like J&MC too. |

apparently about 2/3 of the album is the same. old songs jim reid had put on myspace as demos back in the day or released as freeheat stuff. still, didnt stop me preordering a signed copy of the new album on vinyl!

I have been listening to The Drums nonstop for the past few weeks in anticipation of the new record (which as far as I know is finished but not sure when it comes out). I'm nervous it will sound more like Encyclopaedia and less like Portamento :S Fingers crossed.
About five years ago i'd literally be stroking it to the though of a Ryan Adams leak... I think I burned myself out from him.

I absolutely hammered RTJ3 over Christmas & New Year, enough for me to place it in my Top 5 of 2016.
But, it's really fucking good and I'd be happy to include it on my 2017 list.

The album is very much like the singles, the entire thing is preposterous really, every song has a 40 piece orchestra. It's like a Broadway musical, but I think that's what I love about it. I loved the two singles, so if you didn't, you might not like the album.. |

i quite liked the new british sea power single. pre-ordered a signed copy of the new album on vinyl anyway so looking forward to that arriving. i often find british sea power albums slightly underwhelming on first listen before repeated listens sees them really get under my skin.
gave the new foxygen a spin for the first time yesterday and whilst its nowhere near the quality of we are the 21st century... which is one of my favourite albums of the decade, its a definite improvement on ...and star power which i didn't hate by any means but just found too unfocused to warrant repeated listens. i think they work so much better keeping it fairly short and sweet like they have on the new one.
not seen anyone post their thoughts on the new ryan adams yet which surprised me. ive given it quite a few listens now and really like it (my album of the year so far SPOILER!). my only criticism is that it's almost a bit too much like his last album. whilst that was my favourite record of his and again one of my favourites of the decade, some tunes on this new one almost sound identical. shiver and shake also sounds just like the slowed down version of rats in the wall he often performs live too. overall though it's another superb album, he's on a cracking run of form lately.
