Headphones / Earphones - What do you use?

For a year, up until about April this year, I was using a pair of Sennheiser HD 202's.  For the price, they were pretty great...for using indoors and while not on the move.  The cable on them was ridiculously long, and they didn't do a good job of blocking out outside background noise.  I used them mostly at work and as long as they were cranked up a decent amount, they'd do a good job of blocking out noise.

I decided I wanted to upgrade but wasn't in a position where I could spend any more than £100 so I went for some second-hand Sennheiser Momentum's for £50.  I didn't regret it.  I'm still using them today but have decided to upgrade again (more on that in a minute)  The sound quality is absolutely impeccable; the clarity and detail is just unbelievable.  Like the 202's, not amazing outdoors but definitely an improvement.

This week, I decided to take the plunge and invest in a pair of Sony MDR 1000x's.  One of the fellas I was with in the US the other week bought a pair while we were there.  I had a little go and I was blown away.  The adaptive noise reduction is mindblowing.  In terms of sound, they blow my current set out of the water.  The detail and clarity is much better but they also sound quite a bit more roomy and let tunes breathe a bit more.  They are a little outside of my budget but I figured they're worth it considering how much I'll be using them.  They should be with me tomorrow and I'm real excited.

What have you guys got?

I've used Sennheiser MX475s for years - hardly top end but I find the sound really good. Plus they don't break the bank, which is helpful as I get through a good couple of pairs a year.

They really are a lovely pair of headphones and nicely priced if you go for first generation and not the 2.0's. I'd recommend them to anyone.

For in-ears I always used to use Klipsch Image S4. When I first started buying them they were £80 and eventually went down to about £50. And then they stopped them. They were great for the money.

Then every review I read said the Sound Magic E10s were the quality of ear phones twice their price. I've had them for two pairs in a row and use the Comply Memory Foam ear tips with them which cancel out virtually all background noise. And for the piece they are fantastic. My latest pair are still going strong after three years heavy use. The longest I've ever had a pair.

For home I have Beyerdynamics T50s. Fantastic sound and comfortable. A bit ugly, but I don't care about that.

sennheiser something or other I use at home. Mc Babu recommended them to me so they must be alright.

At work just the standard Iphone in-ears. I treat them like shit & they often get soaked when it rains but they are cheap enough that I don't cry to much when they break. Also the pause & volume buttons are essential for me whilst on delivery. Might order myself a good pair of in-ear ones for non-work purposes. The Sennheisers I've had for years now & despite being constantly run over by the wheels of my computer chair they are still going strong.

I might shell out on a pair of the Sennheiser M2 in-ear ones that Kev mentioned for when I'm on the move, and use my MDR MX1000's strictly at at work, at home and when travelling on my own long distances.

You can spend as much as you like on a world class pair of headphones but they won't be able to stop the national sounding mediocre!

It's been a rollercoaster last 12 months for headphones.  To recap my journey....

This time last year, I was using a pair of Sennheiser HD 202ii's.  Paid £20 for them, and for the price, they are excellent and have a great sound.  Would recommend to anyone on a budget.

Then I upgraded to a pair of Sennheiser Momentum On Ear.  They weren't the 2.0s but they still sounded incredible.  After a couple of months of use, and travelling to the US with them, I decided I wanted wireless & noise cancelling headphones so I went for the best there was - the Sony MDR 1000Xs.  Man, they were fucking great but @ £300+ and with a kid on the way, I couldn't justify the cost so with a heavy heart, after about 10 days of use, I sent them back.

Finally (or so I thought) I settled on a pair of Sennheiser BTNC 4.50s.  They were almost half the price of the Sony's due to the fact that they didn't feel as premium or have as good noise cancellation.  Still, they were a nice pair of cans.

Two weeks ago, I noticed some cracks in the plastic on the hinge so I decided to pursue a replacement.  I couldn't get them replaced but did get a full refund.  Rather than just buy another pair of the same ones, I've gone for the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 Over Ear.  They're wired, and don't have proper noise cancellation, but they do sound fucking amazing (someone at work let me have a test run of theirs) and they have something called Active NoiseGard which isn't full-on noise cancellation, but does a good job.

Hoping the new cans will be here tomorrow.  Feels like I'm 6 years old again on Christmas Eve, can't wait!

I'd like to know some good button earphones tbh, not sure which is the right word but similar to your typical Apple ipod ones. Not in-ear, not headphones, not airpods. Thanks!
