Walker again, not even his position tbf. Also a Jack Wilshere was needed after all? Two errors and the former should have at least been ironed out after the group stages. Still Southgate has proved his worth. Sad for my brother, sad for the United lads. Hopefully Modric ends his career with this.

unlucky Nigels. I somehow found myself kind of wanted you to get to the final*, didnt want you to win the thing but gave it a decent enough effort. I do think though THIS was your chance though (with the draw and "big" teams going out early etc) & not sure if it'll come again as easily. Ability to create from open play is concerning but young team, work in progress. Now, for the real thing, the UEFA Cup of Nations start soon and Scotland will get to Euro '20 by the back door 8) and good to see Mr Happy spreading his unique brand of joy again. Getting upset because a nation seems to be uniting behind a football team and everyone embracing it & enjoying the buzz......nah, toys out the pram because they aren't discussing swirling midfield rotations and just sit there sulking trying to be cool. what a joyless experience that must be

Seeing as Scotland only qualify for a major tournament every century it now makes sense their people are so nationalistic Piece in the jigsaw of thought. This and their biggest icon over the past 30 years is a fake character in a string vest named Nesbitt. Anyway, Stevie Me was just on 5 Live saying Croatia won't win the final as they'll run out of steam. When will this horrific cunt learn. At least Roy Keane was hilarious shooting down Ian Wright.

Heartbroken, angry, proud. I think football, specifically the England national team, is the only thing that could make me feel all three things at the same time. I've been really struggling to get my thoughts together since the final whistle but I'm starting to come terms with it and figure out how I feel.
First and foremost, it is a devastating loss. I don't think I was under any illusion that we were going to win the World Cup, but going into this game I was confident that we had a very good chance of getting to the final. Going 1-0 up after 5 minutes filled my with even more hope and optimism, then absolutely bossing the 1st half had me convinced we were going to the final, just as long as we kept playing how we'd played in the first half, but that didn't happen...
I'm certain Southgate told the team to just sit deep and absorb some pressure, wait for Croatia to tire then try and kill the game off at 65-70 minutes. Well, it didn't work. We should've went for the 2nd goal to kill the game off and then perhaps sat back a bit so part of me feels Southgate is to blame for not being brave enough to instruct the team to attack and finish Croatia off.
I think the result was totally fair and there wasn't much to separate the two teams apart from Mandžukić's goal. We were by far and away the better team in the first half while they brought it to us in the second. Extra time, they continued to put us under pressure and were better in the first 15 minutes, but, the goal aside, I though we were better in the second 15 minutes.
I think we put to bed the notion that we can't play well against stronger opposition with the first half performance as well. Croatia were the strongest team we'd played and we absolutely made them look ordinary. We should have took our chances and been 2 or 3 up by half time but that's how it goes sometimes.
I'm angry at Southgate if I'm honest, and it's frustrating, because at the same time, I've grown to love him and I appreciate everything he'd done for England. Despite my anger, I still have every confidence in him as the man to lead us into Euro 2020 and beyond. He's done so much to change the DNA and identity of the team already and there'll be a lot he can take away from this tournament that he'll hopefully use to help takes us to the next level.
Some other thoughts on where we go from here:
- I think we need to stick with the system he's put in place but we need adopt a more attacking mentality across 90 minutes rather than dropping back once we get a goal which we've seen happen twice in the knockout stages.
- Kyle Walker doesn't work as a centre-back, he just doesn't. And he's not at the age where he can adapt and develop into that position because it's not like City are going to play him there. It's obvious that with this system, we need a centre-back with pace but I don't know who that is.
- We lack someone as technically gifted as Modric in the middle. As much as I like Alli & Lingard, I think we need someone who can take control of the game in the middle and dictate the pace of things a bit.
- Not exactly something Southgate has control over but we NEED Rashford to continue developing. He wasn't perfect when he came on last night but he showed flashes of brilliance
That's all I've got for now. I'm going to put my headphones on and hope not to be bothered for the rest of the day. Unlikely as I work for a French company and we have quite a large team of French people with a couple of them being arrogant and unbearable pricks when it comes to football.
It's legitimately been a fantastic World Cup, maybe my favourite ever, and I think Croatia going on to win it would be the icing on the cake. Looking forward to the final on Sunday and also the 3rd place playoff game on Saturday which we can hopefully win so we can go out on a bit of a high.

Can't get too excited about England so not at all devastated.
We flattered to deceive against weak oppo and didn't actually look that good even then. We got lucky with the draw and got found out against the first half decent oppo.
I don't think we did totally bossed the firdt half, however had Kane tucked away his chance we could be looking at a different result.
I really don't get the Sterling praise. He runs quickly into great positions, pushes them back then either doesn't pass, gets tackled or falls over his own feet every time. Yes- he pushes them back, but what good is that if the oppo get the ball back every time? Literally no end result for player or team.
The only players to emerge woth real crefit for me are Trippier, Maguire and Pickford. Yep Kane will probably bag the Golden Boot and yes he played well enough in the weird kinda no.10 role he seemed to be asked to play, but surely to get the best out of him you need him up top on his own with a creative 10 in behind him.
Anyway, i like Southgate (i said that pre-tournament) and there are little glimmers of hope for the future but too many of his picks didn't perform at all (Young, Walker, Lingard, Alli, Sterling).

Keane didn't shoot anyone down. Keane fanboys are so weird, he could literally answer in burps or something and the fanboys would act all coy and giddy. He was overrated as a player, useless as a manager and a tedious-I-call-it-like-it-is-cos-im-a-badass pundit a la Alan Green.

We don’t seem into the game at all but can’t say I’m surprised really.
Belgium to finish with 3 goals I reckon. We might get one from a set piece.
