I'm really enjoying that EP, it's probably my favourite Pollard release for a while. Whilst the recent GBV records mix up styles a little bit, I've got a little tired of the sound of this current lineup. They're great live, but on record it comes across as a bit too straight up Rock. This Cub Scout EP has more of the lofi indie-rock/powerpop that tbh is my go-to Pollard sound. I love how short it is too, leaves me wanting more every time.

Listening to 'do the collapse' for the first time in years, and I really wonder what ol' Bob was thinking with getting Ric Ocasek as a producer. It just doesn't work.

But it gave us Teenage FBI, Zoo Pie and Liquid Indian.
I'm off to chug 3 beers and listen to Do The Collapse for the rest of the night.

Never knew about that plus I have a huge gap on that GBV era so I might give it a listen soon so I can form my own opinion on it

I must say, it'd been a while since I'd listened to it. Revisiting now and I think it sounds bloody great tbh. A different sound for GBV for sure but I find the run from Teenage FBI through to Surgical Progress incredibly pleasing.

I never know which version of FBI I prefer, I do love the big commercial version. always imagined Liam belting out Hold on Hope

On first listen the production wasn't a big issue for me, only a couple of songs sounded "different" and after 100 samey records I wouldn't say it's a huge problem for GBV. There's a dated late-90s indie vibe but it's never too strong anyway. Surprisingly Wilco came to mind a couple times and probably you could only compare both bands on that 2 year span. But didn't find many songs I really liked tbh and it felt longer than it should.

Yep but I knew the other version from some compilation. Liquid Indian was the real standout for me

YES! One of my favourites too along with Zoo Pie which doesn't seem to get much love.

Another new album landed today, Styles We Paid For. Liking it so far, probably more than the last one (which tbf has grew on me a bit) Been listening to this one quite a bit this week. It's very good.

Didn't realise the new one came out Friday, looking forward to giving it a spin later.

Wasn't too impressed on first listen, though second go through a few songs stood out more. Hopefully it's a grower.

debut full length from cub scout bowling pins out early july. Love that EP more than the last 5 GBV records so I'm hoping it'll be in a similar vain.

I can't be too upset, it's like missing a bus. You swear for 20 seconds then realise there will be another one along in 15 minutes.
