Hello is such the perfect Oasis opener.
WE LIVE IN THE SHADOWS
Every other track on the album has been played to death and I’m no longer arsed about. The exception of course being HEY NOW

actually, i would say Hello is *the* purest distillation of what made Oasis briefly genius. Shameless, huge barreling verses leading to a chorus reclamation from the Gods, no pretence, broadbrushlyrics that ring universally true without trying too hard, a spark of inspiration from Noel that would nevertheless sound mundane and silly if he put his bullshit vocals on it, but elevated 10000x by a Liam vocal that leaves everything on the field and nothing for itself. still charges me up to this day. and it's a fucking gary glitter tune ffs. Genius. Utter genius.
and the there & then version is basically a pivotal moment in my life tbh.

The actual genius is you could say that of ~40 Oasis songs in a span of 2-3 years

The actual genius is you could say that of ~40 Oasis songs in a span of 2-3 years ~40 is generous. 25 maybe really great songs, tops. oh god, we're gonna start a list aren't we?

Me too. It was really the video for d'you know what I mean that made me go what is THIS? One of my great regrets is not seeing them during the bonehead/guigsy years, but realistically my only shot would have been when they played Canada in early 98, and the show in montreal was cancelled due to an ice storm, so i never really had a shot. WTSMG is really my least favourite of the early three albums, but that's mainly because i had the other two first, and knew the singles/videos from being overplayed and was tired of them before i even had the album.

I've been running to the back half of the record, Morning Glory gives you that extra boost.

Gee, Noel looks terrible in that Rockfield video. The only new info (to me) was that the snippet of Wonderwall at the start of Hello isn't taken from the proper track, it was recorded outside, with bird noises (?) audible. The actual genius is you could say that of ~40 Oasis songs in a span of 2-3 years ~40 is generous. 25 maybe really great songs, tops. oh god, we're gonna start a list aren't we? We already did - here's the top 40 in order: 01. Slide Away 02. Listen Up 03. Rockin' Chair 04. Live Forever 05. The Masterplan 06. Fuckin' in the Bushes 07. Acquiesce 08. Some Might Say 09. Go Let It Out 10. Champagne Supernova 11. I Hope, I Think, I Know 12. Wonderwall 13. D'You Know What I Mean? 14. Morning Glory 15. Supersonic 16. Columbia 17. Stay Young 18. Fade Away 19. Headshrinker 20. Let's All Make Believe 21. Gas Panic! 22. Whatever 23. (It's Good) To Be Free 24. Rock 'n' Roll Star 25. Be Here Now 26. My Big Mouth 27. Don't Look Back in Anger 28. Stand by Me 29. Hello30. Bring It on Down 31. Cigarettes & Alcohol 32. Talk Tonight 33. Underneath the Sky 34. Cum On Feel the Noize 35. It's Gettin' Better (Man!!) 36. Hey Now! 37. Round Are Way 38. The Turning 39. Stop Crying Your Heart Out 40. The Shock of the Lightning
