One of the best things i've heard this year is an album called Hollow Heart by The Hanging Stars.

It's all sun-drenched, west coast, Laurel Canyon-y, ringing guitars, gentle harmonies and easy melodies.

Lovely lovely stuff.

I have to admit to only half-listening to it while I work, but I quite like the new black keys. Maybe I'll start a new feature called

Made it most of the way through.

It's offensively bland. the indie pop landscape is in a truly dire state if these are the saviours of Indie. If it was released in 2004 it would be forgotten about in seconds.

I could name 10 or 15 better indie/alternative albums from 2004 without blinking.

Go on then.

Tramp Attack - Attack Attack Attack
Sonic Youth - Sonic Nurse
Rilo Kiley - More Adventurous
Robert Pollard - Fiction Man
The Libertines - The Libertines
Kings of Leon - Aha Shake Heartbreak
Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
Graham Coxon - Happiness in Magazines
The Bees - Free the Bees
Morrissey - You Are the Quarry
The Go! Team - Thunder, Lightning, Strike
Arcade Fire - Funeral
The Futureheads - The Futureheads

all bangers! I do like the Wet Leg record quite a bit, though they don't have a song as good as 2004 indie-pop classic Seems fine by the Concretes!

Not seen anyone mention it yet but quite liking the Sharon van Etten album, 'Headspace' is one of my favourite songs of the year so far.

Saw an album called Heart Under by Just Mustard that's just come out was top of the Shoegaze charts on AOTY's site and the review descriptions made me want to check it out ('smoky shoegaze on a more industrial level', 'Swampy and tumultuous like a month’s worth of rain') and it was well worth it.

Angel Olsen’s new one is decent. Her last one felt like a sensory overload. This one’s chilled to the max. Not as good as my woman though, which is still one of my favourite albums of recent times.

Had a listen through of the Yard Act record.

It's not bad. Funny in places.

But I just don't want to listen to anyone else telling it like it is. Real life is depressing enough at the moment and it's rammed down your throat every time you turn on the news or open any social media app.

I think new bands should be obliged to produce joyful escapism in 2022 and NOTHING ELSE. Fuck reality, even in it's most sarcastic form.

Been spending more time with this ahead of a gig tomorrow. And with time and distance I'm enjoying it a lot more. He's a witty cunt for sure.

The Smile and Kendrick should be higher, but unless there's some stellar releases in the second half of the year it'll probably be between Big Thief and Kendrick for my album of the year.

More out of curiosity than any expectations I gave the Harry Styles album a listen this morning.

And it's not bad at all. Some genuine pop bangers. And a hazy West Coast vibe which I love.

TORONTO ROCK GODS DELILUH's new record is really strong. Real moody, if you like the Smile record I'd say it's somewhat along those lines, though with more of a post-punk meets Neu! feeling to it. Heard a bunch of these songs live last summer in their new 2-piece format & its nice to see how they've fleshed these out in the studio.

Sinead O Brien's debut sounded pretty strong on first two listens. The singles she's released didn't grab me initially, but the record works as a complete piece.
