I’m Free could be the greatest song ever released by a Gallagher. Incredible power. And a reggae breakdown! This is a man not afraid of taking bold creative decisions!
AXL, he’s blown you out of the water again!

Bit of a weird album in that they commit 80% to the regular pastiche music you expect from a Gallagher and then do something odd or don't quite give you what you want or expect. Like the 'SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW LOVE' bit in C'Mon You Know. It's not CRAZY OUTHERE WEIRDO music but definitely not as immediate as usual. More Power sounds like a load of different attempts to write the same song forced together. It sounds like Coldplay for about 8 seconds then goes off into something else. The ballad is a bit much. I'm not sure if it is any good but definitely a billion times better than anything that sad little cunt is capable of obviously. feel like this is the right opinion, although I like More Power more than Sam intimated that he might, but it's definitely a hodge podge. First couple of listens and I like it more than i expected, which wasn't much. It's well produced, and has some appealing little twists. Liam sounds engaged and I couldn't be happier that he seems relaxed and happy. Holy shit tho, the lyrics continue to drag it down lower than it should be. There's no excuse anymore for them to be this bad/unimaginative, especially from someone with as much wit and oddballness as Liam. It's always a pleasure to hear his voice leap out of the mix, but even he can't save so many of the verbal clunkers. Will do a track by track when I've got some listens under the belt this weekend.

madferit fridays
there's a few stinkers in there but equally there's some good fresh sounds. Wasn't keen on the singles but they work in the order of the album. Probably his most complete solo work so far.

Pretty bad tbh I flicked through but give up and listened to "down by the river thames" instead. Now that's great

Downloaded the files off exy, since my vinyl isn't supposed to arrive until next month sometime, fuck you, Bezos.
It brings me no joy to say this, particularly since my non-oasis nerd friends still mock me for my support of beady eye back in the day, but....my god, this is a really, really bad album.
1. More power - This needs more anything. It’s actively bad. The way he pronounces poughER made me LOL, though. 1/10 2. Diamond in the dark - Throw a few horns on this and it wouldn’t sound out of place on a early 2000s Ian Brown album. And for me, that’s (almost) a compliment. 7/10 3. Don’t go halfway - I don’t remember anything about this song, other than that I didn’t like it. 3/10 4. C’mon you know - It takes a certain amount of skill to rip off mucky fingers, which was ripping off the velvet underground to begin with, and make it somehow MORE boring. But they did it, fair play to them. 4/10 5. Too good to give up - The only way this turgid bit of blah can be redeemed is if they play it over scenes of crying scousers and a smiling Ancelotti on Saturday night. This is dreadful. 3/10 6. It was not meant to be – meh. 4/10 7. Everything’s electric - I can see why the record label said they needed a single after hearing everything else so far. *and* why Liam said it was “dangerous”…compared to the first 6 insipid songs, it is. Compared to actual danger, it’s a teddy bear. 6/10 8. World’s in need - This is a fine album track. I don’t have much else to say about this. 5/10 9. Moscow rules - You know…I kind of enjoyed the absurdity of this. I would pay money to see Liam try and sing the chorus of this one live, though. 6/10 10. I’m free – again, this is ACTIVELY bad. Like, what the fuck are they thinking? 2/10 11. Better days – God, I’m tired of this album and there’s 3 more songs to go. This is fine, I guess. He’s beating me down with the chemical brothers drums. 6/10 12. Oh sweet children - As axl says, this sounds like something off of an 80s McCartney album. And that's NOT a compliment. 4/10 13. The joker - This album is going to be MY joker origin story, ffs. I don't think I'd mind this song with a different title, but for christ's sake, Liam. "I'm the Joker"? 5/10 14. Wave - This was potentially interesting, but doesn't really go anywhere. 5/10
I don't know why I'm surprised that I didn't like it at all. I think he needs to find a different group of producers than the same guys he's been using since 2017, but I guess if he plays "d'you know what I mean" in Canada whenever he tours here, it'll have been worth it? 58/140 - 4.1/10

More Power is absolutely magnificent. Love that it's the opening track as well.
I'm still digesting the whole album but I think I really like it. Will post my definitive review coming over the weekend.

I've only gone through it once and I am work so I keep getting interrupted but I will say that I am liking what I hearing so far.
Sometimes I feel a little cringey with the lyrics but overall it's been a good listening experience.
Diamond In the Dark (I can't stop singing the chorus) has really stuck with me and so has More Power which I think is a nice opener.
Will so, I am not a fan of Don't Go Halfway yet..

thoughts on my 4th listen MORE POWER - Is that Andy Bell doing vocals on it LOL!! It's alright, one of the songs that stood out most on 1st listen, though the more I listen to it the less interesting it feels. Solid opener. DIAMOND IN THE DARK - sounds like Arctic Monkeys AM era, therefor is not very good. DON'T GO HALFWAY - HAD A GIRL/SHE GAVE ME HELL/IN A FLAT IN CAMBERWELL. I really hope he didn't pay somebody to write that lyric. Lyrics are proper dogshit & I'm not sure what I make of that drum sound but this sounds like the GLORY DAYS of BDI. It's OK C'MON YOU KNOW - I wish this had a bit more bite to it, no idea why it needs to be 5 minutes long but there you go. It's a solid stomper TOO GOOD FOR GIVING UP - I guess you can't have a Liam record without a big ballad. It's nowhere near as good as ONCE but I've gone from thinking this was pretty cringe on first listen to it growing one me a fair bit. It's the type of song that's probably bang average but elevated by Liam's vocals you've got a keeper. IT WAS NOT MEAN TO BE - This sounds like the very worst of BDI. Did Gem write this? it sounds like Gem wrote this! naff. Fuck off with that outro too EVERYTHINGS ELECTRIC - this has grown on me. I still think it lets itself down with the chorus but I won't argue if this ends up in Liam live sets for the next 15 years. I can punch people to this/10 WORLD'S IN NEED - I fucking hate this song. There's nothing to it, tunes shit, lyrics shit. are we sure Gem didn't write for this? MOSCOW RULES - I really like this. I get big Pete Doherty vibes from this, understated, lyrics don't offend, nice arrangement, lovely little album track. DIG IT I'M FREE - Atari teenage riot, meets Lee Scratch Perry meets unfortunately Kasabian. The reggae breakdown is fucking hilarious I'm not sure if it's the best or worst thing ever, but I'm glad it exists. I'd love to have been in the room with the songwriting committee when someone brought up the reggae idea, must have been some pitch.li I'd like a Echo Dek dub verion of the entire record TBH. I've no idea what to make of this fucking song. VIVA LA LIAM BETTER DAYS - Suppose its been a while since we've had the Tomorrow Never Knows drum beat. Lyrics are just the worst. Don't like the production flourishes on this, but it's a by numbers upbeat Liam number so it's OK by me. OH SWEET CHILDREN - I do like the chorus, it's pure Lennon. verses are uninspired and dull, but just about worth it for when the chorus kicks in. .............. OVERALL: It's alright innit. at this point what the fuck do you want or expect from a Liam Gallagher record. I'm happy for him to turn up like the ghost of a Jedi every few years in times of need and sing 3 bangers, half a dozen songs I wish I never have to hear again & some shit that makes me laugh. I do (I think I'm probably in a minority here) miss the fast & furious throwaway rock numbers, stuff along the lines of EYEBALL TICKLER or AIN'T GOT NUFFIN, just hearing Liam spit out lyrics over a fast paced stomper. That's all kinda gone with this new slightly more polished modern production sound. I've no idea where I'd rank it out of the other solo records, that'd mean listening to them again which I'm not gonna do. Still, few keepers here. Next I'd like him to make a record produced by Steve Albini with Black Midi as his backing band.

Next I'd like him to make a record produced by Steve Albini YES I think what bothers me the most about this album is that there is nothing in it that says this is a LIAM GALLAGHER album. Say what you will about As You Were (and to a lesser extent, the 2nd one), it was 100% Liam. This one just feels like his producers came to him with a bunch of finished tracks and said "sing over this". There's no soul, no edge, no nothing. It's just sort of there. And that's not what I expect from him.

It sounds like karaoke in places, like his vocals don't go with the music, I don't know. I need to listen to the album in full,, but the only thing that is decent is the AM era Arctic Monkeys ripoff.

I can’t get away with the production. Who mixed it It’s all wrong. The drums are too high up in the mix, that would be fine if the drums weren’t plodding as fuck. You can’t even hear the guitars. It’s absolutely abysmal. Probably the worst thing that’s ever been released by a Gallagher brother. It’s a new low. The lyrics are like something my 8 year old nephew would come up with. It’s absolutely crap.
