It sounds like karaoke in places, like his vocals don't go with the music, I don't know. I need to listen to the album in full,, but the only thing that is decent is the AM era Arctic Monkeys ripoff.
Don't know what they did to his vocals, but more than half the songs have a weird effect to them.
Been listening to it a lot over the past two weeks; a few more firm opinions:
"Too good for giving up" is a stock standard ballad but ruined by the embarrassing strain in Liam's voice. If he'd given it a more restrained approach a la "Once" or "Start Anew" it'd be a classic and a hit.
"Free" is still just ghastly and cringe.
More Power, title track, Moscow Rules, and Everything's Electric are the highlights, and Joker is better than half the album tracks.
just realised i never posted my jp verdict on the new LG album. i've had countless pms hassling me for it so here we go...
more power - fucking love this. still sing the choir bits around the house regularly. 10/10
diamond in the dark - the strong start continues. i wish liam did more tunes like this. sounds pretty modern and cool as fuck. 10/10
don't go halfway - found this a bit forgettable at first but the whacky lyrics make up for it. 7/10
c'mon you know - when this first came out i thought this sounded like beady eye (a positive) but didn't really go anywhere. as the months went by i changed my mind completely and fucking loved this. big tune. 10/10
too good for giving up - i'm a sucker for a big liam ballad. 10/10
it was not meant to be - deffo has slight album filler vibes but i dig this. 7/10
everythings electric - so much better live than the overproduced album version. can't deny its a huge tune though. 7.5/10
world's in need - filler. liam sounds nice though. 6/10
moscow rules - nice to hear liam doing something a bit different 8/10
i'm free - the greatest song of all time? i wouldn't bet against it 10/10
better days - sound of the summer. 9/10
oh sweet children - i reckon liam likes the beatles. 6/10
overall it's probably his best solo album. long live liam gallagher
Its actually grown on me a lot tbh. Still always think he stretches himself with too many songs (as did beady eye) but there's some nice stuff on there. The instrumental section of Moscow rules is my favourite bit (and the songs the best on the album).
