Electric Soft Parade - The American Adventure It's really odd looking back on this to think that when it came out in 2003 it sounded completely alien to me. I listened a handful of times & to my ears then there was absolutely no tunes on the record, it felt so weird. Looking back now it sounds straight forward enough, sure it isn't as instant or as poppy as the debut but it's hardly a 'difficult' record. 7.5

Let's get 2011 going:
Smith Westerns - Dye It Blonde -> 7/10 -> Little deception, it's like the debut but cleaner and with less tunes.
The Go! Team - Rolling Blackouts -> 7/10 -> Fun and bombastic, decent in my book.
Yuck - Yuck - 7.5/10 -> MY FAVOURITE RECORD OF THE YEAR, which is not a great achievement tbh. I still don't know if I will really love it or will get tired of it quite soon. Right now is a nice listen.

There are a few top tunes on it. Will hold my hands up and admit I dismissed it at the time Still would probably only give it a 6/6.5 though Never heard the 3rd record.

The Decemberists - The King is Dead I love this kinda music, the whole Southern/country/almost bluegrassy sound without all the hillbilliness. 8.5/10

Best Coast - Crazy for You - 7/10 - Nice album but that's about all. Boyfriend is a top quality song but the rest is a little samey I think.
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - Safe As Milk - 9/10 - Brilliant from start to finish, always a pleasure to stick on at any time really. I could really do with downloading a better quality rip though, that's for sure.
Orange Juice - You Can't Hide Your Love Forever - 7/10 - Despite it's thorough 80's feel, this is very enjoyable listen as usual, plenty of quality hooks and snazzy bass.
The Sand Band - All Through The Night - 4/10 - Gave this a listen today to see what the minor fuss is about but sadly it's not up to much in my opinion. A few nice songs, definitely, but it's all a bit boring for me.
Tom Petty - Full Moon Fever - 8/10 - "a minor masterpiece." according to AllMusic, and I could agree with that. Brilliant, light hearted rock album. Jeff Lynne, churning out hit albums for everyone but himself since 1980.

was it you who said you thought they were real good live at field day baz? not having a dig or owt as lets face it, ive bigged up my fair share of mor shit in my time, just coulda sworn you said something along those lines aye , it was me. it's why i said what i just said to ana tbh because i really enjoyed them live (although i was quite hammered) so i got back and was looking forward to checking them out. quite like it on first listen and then after that i started actively loathing them I've just given the debut a spin cos they're going to Benicassim and I want to have some decent arguments to bash them. A friend said they are a little like Fleet Foxes but happier. I told her that it's like those little simple versions with pictures of Don Quixote they make for childs.

This year has been top so far The Joy Formidable - The Big Roar (2011) This lot wouldn't be for everyone, but I've liked them since their last mini-album, and this, their debut full album, is full of decent rocky tunes. Remind me a bit of bands like The Duke Spirit. Well worth checking out. Cut Copy - Zonoscope (2011) Liked this lot for a few years, and this could well be their best yet. Very poppy, really catchy melodies. Even the 15 minute closing-track doesn't drag. Gruff Rhys - Hotel Shampoo (2011) Only heard this the once so far, but loved it. Nice to see my ex-wife Cerys turn up too THE REST OF THE TIME - BEADY EYE

Gruff Rhys - Hotel Shampoo (2011) Only heard this the once so far, but loved it. Nice to see my ex-wife Cerys turn up too On space dust #2? Thats El Perro Del Mar. Unless Cerys is also on there. I like that joy formidable record but a huge chunk of it was already on that mini record. Surely they could of come up with an LP of new material. Beck - Songs Of Leonard Cohen 6.5 Darker My Love - Alive As You Are 7.25 Gruff Rhys - Hotel Shampoo 8 Iggy Pop - The Idiot 9.5 The Lemonheads - Come On Feel 9.25 Darwin Deez - Darwin Deez 7 The Dead Weather - Sea Of Cowards 6 Deer Tick - The Black Dirt Sessions 6.75 Neil Young - Tonights The Night 7.25 I still don't get Tonights the night. It just won't click however many times I play it. It's good & I like it but I don't understand why it's considered one of his best. For me it's a good gear or two down from his best work, I even prefer American Stars N Bars.

Still would probably see them live but can't bring myself to listen to them on record anymore minus a handful of tunes, sounds dated to me now. The first 3 EPs still sound mega too me, and half of the debut is really good. However it trails off really badly, listened to the 2nd album for the first time in years the other month and realised that every song on there is utter dog shit. Have no idea what happened to them to turn them so shit so suddenly. Found an old cdr before christmas, that Ross 'cyberpedro' Forgan gave me of pre first album demos and live stuff from when they were called 'insense' (shit band name, can't believe they managed to change it to to an even shitter one) he made me promise not to send it to anyone or turtle it because apparantly it came direct from Adam Nutters best mate. Dunno if the stuff on it is in the public domain but its an interesting listen all the same.
