07: Isobel Campbell And Mark Lanegan - HawkHad never heard any of their work prior to this. So glad I checked this out, sounds like a modern day Nancy & Lee. Will be checking out their past records ASAP. Have you heard Bubblegum by Mark Lanegan yet (I think it's under Mark Lanegan Band)? Would highly recommend you do.

1. Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - Before Today
In a year with a lack of a clear favourite, the prize goes to the most bizarre one, and I know a few years ago I'd have surely hated it. Being a complete unknown of Ariel Pink, I was amazed and amused from the very start of the clever mix of styles and the constant unpredictable changes, and how it worked together. Ariel as a person is quite special too and there's even a Chinese bassist wearing a poncho in the band ffs. The fact that the chorus of Round and Round is one of the biggest things in life also helps.
2. MGMT - Congratulations
They're a love or hate thing too, even for me. But there was a moment where I realized they really feel music and just do the music they feel. This is another album full of interesting songs not afraid to evolve, and interesting is a really nice adjective these days.
3. Crocodiles - Sleep Forever
They have some incredible songs here and the album probably flows better than the debut. And although I like it the way it is, if Hexes exploded instead of imploding maybe they would even be higher in my list.
4. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Beat The Devil's Tattoo
Whatever you say, for me this is another jewelry work, containing some of their best songs to date and not a weak one imo. Only have love and kind words for them.
5. Eels - End Times
The bleakest album of a bleak man, it took me a while to love it. Now it sits among its best work, and he has done a few of those.
6. The Futureheads - The Chaos
From the "5, 4, 3, 2, 1, let's go!" to the final a-capella harmonies. With the ridicolously catchy "Heartbeat Song" and my favourite solo this year in "I Can't Do That". Cracking album, all of it.
7. The Tallest Man On Earth - The Wild Hunt
It's incredible what can a man achieve with only his voice and a guitar. And improve it with lovely fingerpicking in the second album.
8. I Am Kloot - Sky At Night
Beautiful music.
9. The Black Keys - Brothers
I think the change was needed and it's been done right. An early contestant for winner that has dropped a little, but still love it.
10. Shit Horse - They Shit Horses, Don't They EP
As EPs count, they have to be here. Four men from different decades revolutioned the soapbox and impressed me, you know the score.
11. Adam Green - Minor Love
Effortless album by a great songwriter. He also released a lovely instrumental album this year.
12. The Black Angels - Phosphene Dream
Still haven't heard their previous ones, but this is as close you can get to good 60s psychedelic music without falling on boredom and plagiarism.
13. The Coral - Butterfly House
Another solid album, maybe their best for me, great production too.
14. Woods - At Echo Lake
I'm quite new to Woods and I think this is suposed to be their most accessible one, but who cares. Breathy, funny, falsetto-y, nice.
15. The Soft Pack - The Soft Pack
They're alright but I still think they could be better if they weren't, erm, soft. Down on loving is a tune, with capital T.
16. Nobunny - First Blood
Enjoyable little album, nothing wrong with it.
17. Paul Weller - Wake Up The Nation
He's done it again.
18. Edwyn Collins - Losing Sleep
The first solo album I hear from him, some big names there but only one protagonist.
19. Weezer - Hurley
Never been a Weezer man myself, but this was a nice surprise. Without changing a thing they've managed to put an album worthy of their start.
20. Cloud Nothings - Turning On
Only a collection of singles and eps, but a good one. Their/His first prober albumis one of my anticipated for next year.
21. The Courteeners - Falcon
Never cared before with the debut but surely a lads band making disco is wrong. Or so would I have thought before I got addicted to some tracks.
22. Spirit Night - What Will We Be
I picked this from a blog just reading a misterious description. Nice surprise.
23. The National - High Violet
Always hated them a little, but as Ben says this is their most accessible effort and I have some love for it.
24. Tokyo Police Club - Champ
When I forgot they were told the Canadian Strokes and listened to it a little found some fun.
25. Free Energy - Stuck On Nothing
Decent pop album, everything is in its right place.
26. Grinderman - Grinderman 2
Don't need explanation.
27. The Strange Boys - Be Brave
Good sophomore, more relaxed but still catchy.
28. Eels - Tomorrow Morning
A little deception but still pretty good.
29. Best Coast - Crazy For You
It had to feature my list, although it's simple and samey and worse than the singles. Cos it's lovely too.
30. The 22-20s - Shake, Shiver & Moan
The title track and 9 good companions. Don't know a lot about them but I found it in a blog back in June and have seen it mentioned in a few other places, there must be more than 4 people mahoney.

I started with Songs of Shame after founding The Babies. Woods don't sound like them though but probably better in a different manner

I'm a little deceived with 2010, most of them are 7 to 8 albums, and a few 8/9 but not a patch on my 2009 top5
