First listen - quite like it, some big tunes there.
Will undoubtedly get quite a few more spins yet

Well I was a massive fan of the 1st and 3rd from the off, the 2nd was a grower, hopefully this will be too, but I'm not sure. There's a lot of plodding, slow tempo numbers with gibberish-like lyrics.

as opposed to other arctic monkeys albums? aye, the first listens to their records always seems to be the same. People either really loving it from the off, or thinking its their worst I think this is the most i've been impressed with one of theirs on first listen. The opening two tunes are just fantastic, and i've grown to really like the two singles too. Library Pictures is gonna be a cracker live, and All My Own Stunts has to be a single. Hellcat is pretty ace, too

as opposed to other arctic monkeys albums? aye, the first listens to their records always seems to be the same. People either really loving it from the off, or thinking its their worst I hated them when they came out for a bit, then listened to the album and became a fan. Loved Nightmare right away, didn't get into Humbug for a month, though now it's my favorite. This one...I like the first half but the tunes on the second half are a bit slower and are going to take a bit more time to grow on me i think. Not worried though this time. I agree with ben that I prefer the Submarine version of Piledriver better so far.

Also agree that Brick by Brick is out of place and the worst track. Also not feeling Reckless Serenade yet. Nevermind, Love Is A Laserquest is the one.

They were great tonight. Holy fuck. We moved a bit during the show. Was at the front for the last half. Lots of kids though, like I dont think Ive been to a show with that many young people since I was a young person lol. Setlist was pretty much close on to the one above. I cant remember most of it.

The Vaccines were pretty good too. I was impressed with them live.

2nd listen I liked it even more. I don't like making big statements on such early listens but it could well be my favourite record of theirs.
This new LP to me sounds like a mixture of Nightmare & Humbug, almost as if it should of been their third record sandwiched inbetween those two.

Great pic, Ben. A little small, though. The drummer has a Moz t-shirt on

first listen, i thought it was absolutely lovely. i'm a massive fan of whenever the arctic monkeys play it softer, with lilting melodies. they seem to have the knack of getting more tender without getting blander (And actually more affecting), every single time.

what i think they've nailed on this album is marrying their softer side with the druggy wooziness they have clearly picked up from josh homme, and most importantly, making it sound fucking GREAT. what an album, what a band. there's probably no other band out there of a similar size that is more purely about the music than these chaps.

On my 1st listen now, sounding really strong. I think you've got it spot on, Baz. This could very well grow to be my favourite album of theirs. Great stuff.

Library Pictures is probably my favourite so far. Frantic in places, lovely in others, all in just over 2 minutes.
